Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 vs Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus

So, impressions so far:
- Much MUCH softer than the run-flats, which was expected. They feel great, like running on my snows, but with better handling
- Being almost 10lbs lighter per tire is noticeable in the steering feel, it feels lighter
- They are extremely quiet

Have not had a chance to venture out of town with them yet, but will update further once I have.

All-in price, including a full alignment and taxes was $2,777.62 CDN, which is $2,026.86 USD. For perspective, the TireRack price was $1,599.96 + $240.72 in shipping, so $1,840.68 USD before taxes, alignment and labour.

Partially just tread height but also the antimicrobial whatever coating that is on new tires.
Mold release compound? I think being used also firms them up some? Heat cycled? dunno
its not the tread height. There is no appreciable wear in 1000 miles. Although naturally the shorter the tread it will feel firmer.

Yes, sorry that's what I was thinking of. What I'm saying is new tires at 10/32" will have more squirm than once they wear a bit.

Man, I should be happy with my 235/40/18s all-in for a grand including warranty.

I'd agree with that. What I was saying is just driving on them for 1000miles
Tires will seem firmer.. for whatever technical reasons.
and the tires I run 1000 miles isnt even 1/64"

I bet you will like them even more after a few weeks and 500+ miles.

Did you see the price of the OE's? $645.65/each USD, plus $244.80 shipping. That's $2,827.40 before tax. That's $3,871.99 CDN, plus tax, alignment and installation, or just under $5K ($4,759.55).

It's one reason why I've never owned a vehicle with huge wheels/tires.

I should say that my experience wiht PSAS4s w/r to noise has been "no issue" - they are certainly louder than a ground touring all season but I have heard multiple people note the DWS05+ is a lower noise tire so it likely is....a little more noise for a little better handling is really the trade off.
Honestly, where I spend 90% of my time on normal roads and not the track, the noise for slightly better handling is a bad trade.

I go to the track perhaps maybe a few times a year, and do some backroad shenanigans, and the low noise was the absolute better trade over the handling where I couldn't really tell the difference.

I use to run PS4s but the extra 7-800$ more over the DWS06+ made no sense to me considering where I live we get like 3 months of summer lol

I read many reviews noting an odd frequency noise. It hasn't been my experience though. When they were new they were only noisy on rain groves pavement which is common on the interstates around here, but after a few thousand miles even that went away.

OverKill ,hope the Contis work out!

Ya even with EPS I also noticed a huge difference compared to the S001 RFT. Although, @CapriRacer will probably give you a hard time over the asymmetrical tread. lol.

For sure - either of these is not appropriate for track use unless it's just what you have/n00b. For day to day, either are great. For me, the last set I bought for the Passat...Conti doesn't have a 225/45/17 in an XL load rating while Michelin does. For the Sportwagen, next all seasons I give the DWS06+ a try.

Not to derail but in response to this comment, this is why I want to get my wife an Ascent Premium as opposed to the Limited. 18" vs 20" tires but the Limited has more of what we want. I see NO need for 20" tires on a Subaru Ascent. I want more tire on an SUV, not less. But that is just me.

I've never used the new DWS06+ model. I had the prior DWS06 tires on a few different tires and liked everything about them. Was thinking about trying out the Michellin AS4 or Pirelli P Zero AS+3.

I've made trim level decisions multiple times based on wheel size b/c of this issue. I like the look of the larger wheels but the cost to own was always too much for me for a family vehicle.

10 pounds lighter than which tire again?

Oh, for the good old days, when 14" and 15" wheels were enough for normal people and 22" were only on semi-trucks.
Yep, I remember thinking 16-17 were huge. Now 17-18 is nothing and 20+ is the thing.

The DWS 06+ and 06 are literally the same tire except they discovered that swapping the position of 2 bands of the tread pattern with one another made some improvements. I can't seem to find where I read this, but I'm fairly confident on that.

Currently in the market for some ExtremeContact Sport 02's myself. I would have no hesitation buying them either. Have used P4S' as well. I've also been looking at Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 since they're OEM on my car these days but I'm not really sure if Audi did that to save money or what.

Pirelli is the loudest tire that I have ever owned. Never again at any price. I thought I had a bad wheel bearing.
Have a set of their Scorpion 3 all seasons on our family vehicle...great tires. Had a set of Cinturato P3 on my Sportwagen before RACEKOR and again...fantastic.
