Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 vs Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus

I will reinforce your choice. I’ve run both on my FX50S, which is a heavy, stiff, sporty SUV. I got about 30K miles out of each set. I ran the Conti DWS06 first and thought they were great. I push the car hard in the curves and spend a lot of time in it. When the Conti’s wore out, TR was having a sale on the Michelin. Immediately, I was concerned about the noise, they only got louder as the miles piled on. The turn in was quicker with the Michelins, the feel through the wheel was better with the Michelins. The road noise rosonating through the chassis was almost unbearable. The ultimate grip at temp was very similar. By the time the Michelins were down to about 50%, I was looking into suspension parts. I had it aligned and everything checked out fine, the tram lining would pull try to pull the wheel out of my hand over uneven pavement. I was concerned something was wrong with the rear wheel steering, steering rack damage, etc. I was considering selling the car.

They wore out, I put a new set of DWS06+ on the car and started giggling when I drove it home. it was so quiet, I could hear the air conditioner compressor noise on the highway. First time ripping it through the mountains, the steering was a l title slower, but it was still so quiet and not kicking me in the kidneys. Suddenly, everything is working properly again. I just did a couple thousand mile trip towing a trailer through the mountains and I love my car/truck again. FWIW, the DWS06 and PS AS4 lasted within 2K miles of each other.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I’m a Michelin guy. When I was racing I was sponsored by Michelin. My other cars have PS4S’ on them. I want the Michelins to be better, but in my 21” SUV application, they were not ideal.

We obviously need a lot more roaming speed traps in Texas.
Lmao come over to Central TX, 130 is wiiiiide open road with minimal traffic and 80-85 posted limits. No exaggeration, I need more than two hands to count the amount of times I’ve been passed and/or maintained pace with State traveling at those speeds.

I vote for the Continentals. You’ve been around the block with Michelin for a long time, would be interesting to hear how something else performs. Enjoyed hearing about your other Continentals.

I've run a few pairs of the DWS non plus version and you can't go wrong with those. I have always wanted to try the Michelin's but a lot of the reviewers say there's an annoying high-pitched whine on the highway and other considerable road noise. I guess it depends on how sound proof your cabin is too.

I have used the DWS06 series tires as my non-summer tires on my past 2015 Z51 Corvette and my current 2022 Z51 Corvette. In comparison, Michelins are overpriced, IMO. Compared to summer tires, the DWS06 give up very little in performance in the dry. If I were lazy, I would run them year round.

I use to run the Michelin AS4, but switched to the Contis DWS06+

Reason being is, the DWS06+ has considerably better ride quality, and it's quieter.

I've done lapping with both sets and the AS4 is slightly better, but obviously all seasons aren't supposed to be track tires.

The AS4 rides stiff, and noise level is higher, while the DWS06+ tends to absorb bumps better and noise levels are about 2 levels lower.

Wear wise, the DWS06+ is better overall.

I actually was caught out with light snow a few times with the DWS06+ and they handled it quite well, I was impressed as I felt safe driving in light snow.

I should say that my experience wiht PSAS4s w/r to noise has been "no issue" - they are certainly louder than a ground touring all season but I have heard multiple people note the DWS05+ is a lower noise tire so it likely is....a little more noise for a little better handling is really the trade off.

20000 kilo meters and they look like that ! and the price they command for them disgusting.

I have close to 40000 k on my mustang with the dws contis and i would guess by eyeballing them they are between 40 to 50 % worn.
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them one of the best if not best tire i have put on a car .
No issue's with balancing ! i rotate them every 10000k and they are wearing uniform at all four corners.
If your experience with them is anything like mine you will be extremely happy with them.

The only issue i felt with the tires is within the first 5000k the tires felt a little squirmy if that make any sense to you , after that it was game on with them. Good Luck..

I have felt that many times with new tires.. usually about 1000 miles or less and they firm up some.

The Pirelli's were so loud by the time they were removed anything would seem dead silent in comparison, lol.

Partially just tread height but also the antimicrobial whatever coating that is on new tires.
