Michelin Energy Saver A/S Replacements

Dumb question. What was the tire pressure that you were running before the tire change and what are they now? It’s just odd, my hybrid’s fuel economy is very sensitive to temperature, tire pressure changes, I haven’t seen a drop with these new tires.

Not a dumb question. Door card says 35. They were filled to 35 when I got them. I took them to 38 so they’re good through the colder weather.

It was like the flick of a light switch. Literally a 25ish mile highway ride before and after (to start) with drastic differences.

New, deep treads have more rolling resistance.

Nice! I like the way continentals look and and always get a dead silent ride for less money. I was a Michelin fan but am slowly converting all my tires over as they wear. The CC2 was a huge $1000 regret and really soured me.

Why didn’t you like CC2? I had them on my CRV and loved them - the best tires I’ve ever had. Quiet and great wet traction.

I had one that got a hole they couldn’t patch safely and I was deeply disappointed that my size had been discontinued.

First thing was an mpg hit and even being road forced they were just never as smooth as the the primacy’s they replaced. My wife commented how hard they rode and she wasn’t wrong. When making a slow turn in a parking lot they sounded knobby making me think I had some sort of a cv issue that I didn’t. At 20k they’ve worn down way too fast considering they had more tread depth than the primacy’s. I ordered an identical set of of midnight rims and slapped a set of lx 25s on them and it was night and day. The Michelins were $1k while after rebates and sale price I got the continentals for half that. I’m going to run the Michelins down and slap on a set of ecopias I just bought on Black Friday for $110 a tire and save the lx 25s for winter. Lots of folks love the cc2s but they just weren’t a tire I could justify for what they cost. I know ecopias wear fast but the last set I had were smooth as silk and quiet as a church mouse, so should work well for a summer tire. FWIW, I put a little over 20k on the continentals this summer and when I pulled them off for winter they were still at 8/32.

I get that. I had a set some years ago and although they didn’t last long they checked a lot of boxes. Price was a factor this time, plus I’ll only run them for 2 seasons. I have a set of turanzas (once again pricing) on my 21 Altima and they’ve been great. 24k on them and they’re wearing well (7/32) and are quiet and wobble free as any tire I’ve ver used. $600 out the door at Walmart when anything else was $1k. Granted I keep my psi at the oem recommendation and rotate every 5k.

I’m also that guy who replaces tire probably before the average person. 6/32 and I’m shopping for my next set. The contis and turanzas are on track to get about 50k which is all I ask. The Michelins are a maybe. The rogue they’re on isn’t extremely hard on rubber considering i got 40-45k on the crap Oem hankooks. The primacy’s probably would have lasted 50k but I picked up a framing nail at 35k on the outside tread so I went with the cc2s and they’re close to 6/32 at around 20-25k.

I've had 3 sets of michelin energy savers on my Camry. City driving, I get 20,000 miles per set. It's a softer tire (utog) than the defender or cc. Mpg seems good. 20 around town 35-38 highway at 65. Seem to handle pretty well, and track straight . They can be a little slippery in the wet. Hope this helps. YMMV

I don’t know how you get 20k miles while I still had tread at 90k, for very similar cars. I get that oe compounds can be different, but still.

If I was getting 20k I’d be looking for a different tire… and some significant suspension work.

I've had 3 sets of michelin energy savers on my Camry. City driving, I get 20,000 miles per set. It's a softer tire (utog) than the defender or cc. Mpg seems good. 20 around town 35-38 highway at 65. Seem to handle pretty well, and track straight . They can be a little slippery in the wet. Hope this helps. YMMV

I think it is the very short tripping when the cold tire is not round on startup. I get a warranty pro rate and keep rolling. I think the softer tire is easier on my suspension parts over these rough and pot holed city streets.

You replaced worn LRR tires with new, somewhat LRR tires. Plus the weather just got colder. Hybrids are extremely sensitive to tires and climate. All of this sounds perfectly normal to me.

Physics dictate a loss of mileage in winter.. Do you have any mileage records from previous winters?
if your car loses 0 mileage in the winter
you would be the first ever. I find it hard to believe you have 0 mpg loss.

We’ll lookie here. I installed my snow tires, after many years of not using them. And everything is back to normal despite using them in single digit temps and more cabin heat use (which forces the engine on more) than I have in years.

I wasn’t ever able to break 50 under any circumstances with the continentals. I am getting it again in the depth of cold snowy winter. I used to get 60+ in milder conditions too.

So clearly these continental tires aren’t just higher rolling resistance, they are indeed high rolling resistance! I’m 100% convinced now that I’ve validated that it’s entirely reversible.

I just put two of the Continental TrueContacts up front on my 17 Camry SE. We'll see how it goes!

The Continental LX-25's are very close to the TX series that came on the Maverick. 1 mpg down at the most.
