Hi all! Been reading here of using maintenance dosages, of PEA detergents! so something i wanna try. Went too wallyworld, and bought a 10 oz. botle of techron, $4.97, good for up too 15 gallons of gas, and a bottle of gumout regaine, 6 fl.oz. good for 21 gallons. every fill up, i get about 7 1/2 gallons. its a 98 toyota corolla. do alot of stop n go traffic.
so! maintenance dosages* what would it be per gallon for both items? i had read .75 oz per liter, but am more familiar wit gallons, not liters.
so, maintenance ozs. per gallon per fill up?

You would want to use one bottle per fill up. For me I buy a 5 ounce bottle of STP complete-fuel-system-cleaner every 30K miles and pour it in after I fill up the tank.

If I understand your question correctly; which is that you don't want to use the recommended dose, but rather a dose that you should use on a continuing basis; then the dose for Techron would be 1/10th the recommended dose.

So instead of 10 oz./15 gallons (1 oz./1.5 gallons) you should use 1 oz./15 gallons (0.07 oz./gallon). This dose would give you the same amount of Techron as is in Chevron gas at the pump and should be a good maintenance dose.

I can't speak for other additives.

Yes! I want to use on a continual basis. I fill my tank 7 1/2 gallons abot a week and a half, which ive prob driven about 80-88 miles a week.
1 oz. for 15 gallons???? i am using 7 1/2 gallons, 1/2 an oz. is maintenance dose? thats hardly even opening the container for!!!
would like 3 ozs per 10 gallons be mroe rasonable? in my case, (the tank is 10.5 ozs, i nver go below quarter of at ank) at 7/12 gallons, plus the 2 1/2 i leave in thier, woud 3 ozs be overkill???

I use lucas UCL at 3 ozs per tankfull. i am planning on mixing the -3 ozs of techron, later regaine at each tankful mixed with the UCL.

lol i have sed redline before..local autozone used to sell it. used too* have access too techron n gumout, so wanna use those...
would 1.5 ozs per 10 gallons be ok as a miantenance dosage? 3 ozs?

Well, I'm not sure what would be a maintenance dose of the other products. Techron is near impossible to get up here. Oddly enough, the Red Line is actually a bit cheaper than the Regane (at least when the Regane isn't on sale). Yes, things are strange in Canada.

I'd suggest that a reasonable starting point for a calculation would be comparing a maintenance dose of Red Line versus a full strength dose and how many gallons of fuel a full bottle is supposed to be able to treat, and go from there. These companies love selling their additives; you'd think they'd make it easier to use them more often!

1 oz per 15 gallons? its hard to belive thiers that little

even for the gasoline techron..
is 1 oz per 15 gallons actually an accurate estimate?
that would be like 1/2 an oz for mine 7 1/2 gallons.
i plan too mix that with lucas ucl in container before fill up, add additive then fill up. usualy use global gas or citgo, now advertising some kinda detergency on thier pumps...

I'd have to check a bottle of the Red Line and see how much they reduce the regular dose to reach a maintenance dose, and over how many gallons the bottle is good for. Obviously, the maintenances doses are pretty darned tiny.

Do note, too, the the Red Line bottle, for whatever reason, holds substantially more than does a Regane bottle. Yet, they are both technically single dose bottles.

For a UCL, check into some of the threads of two-stroke oil. It may be a better option with respect to cost. That's another thing I like about Red Line; it's supposed to be a UCL as well. Generally speaking, though, I don't worry too terribly much about running a cleaner that often. I stick to Top Tier or well known stations (and the G uses premium anyhow). But, I still do toss some in on occasion. And maintenance doses are probably the ideal way to do things, just less convenient.

I wondered the same...also wondered if mainteannce dosage is any better than say a full bottle Techron at say 5k intervail?

+1

If it makes you feel better drop a full bottle in before or after every oil change. A maintenance dose isnt going to do much to keep anything clean. These products arent very powerful even at a full dose. i still use them every now and than but doubt their effectiveness. Its like using premium fuel instead of regular where the mfr recommends regular...no proof its better.

Yes the snake oil sales men have done well here.

A guy who claims his gas is not substandard just wants to do it because it is a "car guy thing"

If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

You should pour it in right before filling it up is my understanding. That way it mixes better with the fuel.

That's the better way to do it, before you fill up.

Where do you purchase the redline in Canada?
