IIRC, some of them have DUAL fans. An electric and a mechanical. I think my dad's '03 just has the electric.

I have a Mark VIII fan on my Townie (originally mechanical) and it is the most insane OEM fan ever made, well over 4,000CFM.

In '98, the mechanical fan was actually replaced by an electrical one.

Great ride you got there. They are great cruisers. I got a 2008 cr. vic lx from my dealer I work at. It was an ex rental car, from our rental dept. They had four of them they wanted to unload. The one I bought had 10,900 miles on it.

Fully loaded LX with factory handling and performance pack, leather, duals, came with the factory sticker. MSRP was 33,000 and change.

I picked it up for $13,900. Mine has the 3.27 ratio. Best mpg I got with it was 26 mpg.

I only run MC 820s filters.

I agree with you the panther Fords are great cruisers. I would have liked to have gotten the performance package, but the available trim lines and options list was radically trimmed back for 2009. Even little niceties like the overhead console and compass to the remote release fuel filler door were not available.

It is pretty clear they are on their way out and that is sad, because there really is nothing else like them available from any other manufacturer. I am please i got one before production is stopped entirely. They truly were durable cars.

Cutting out the overhead console/compass was really stupid...I don't believe any Panthers ever had the remote release fuel filler door...At least none of ours have the remote release fuel door nor anyone I know with a late model Panther..

At least they will be a lot of good used ones around for the next 10 years...At least down here in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area...Everyday I see tons of them.

That car was steal!!!..I would have bought it myself if I was looking for one... I paid more for mine with 20K miles on it when it was a year old back in 05...Mine was a rental for 6 months and a lease for 6 months.

My 2008 has the overhead concsole with compass. I work in the parts department at a Ford for the past eleven years, so I am sure that is one of the reasons I got a great deal.

Like I said before they had four of these they wanted to unload from our rental dept. at work. Two of the cars had the ugly fake tops. I hate them.

Customer came in today in a 2009 Taurus with one of those fake tops. I don't know why some people like them.

my 94 Grand marquis had a button you pushed inside the car to open the fuel filler door.

it was a very loaded GS, digital dash, leather, ABS, traction control and lots sound deadner etc

I agree with you on the fake convertible tops. They are pretty wretched, but I guess they appeal to a certain kind of person. For myself, I'd never spend a penny on one of those vinyl tops.

Along similar lines, my GM came with white sidewall tires which by my reckoning are out of place on a car with sporty chrome wheels. A lot of GM buyers are geriatric and I guess many are into old school white sidewalls.

The tires are Michelin Energy LX4 and are pretty good for an OEM so I'll run them till they wear out and replace them with blackwalls. I can live with a little stodgy as long as it is comfortable and the GM has comfort in spades.

Good to know. I like a big comfortable car that doesn't cost me any of my body parts to buy or maintain.

How often do you see the "sport" model, i.e., the ones with front buckets and a floor automatic shift console? I test-drove one of those about two years ago, and if the transmission in my car back then had picked that day to throw a tantrum, I'd be driving that Mercury today.

Actually I was looking for the C.V. Sport Model myself...But found zero...I looked for about 2 weeks but settled on the LX cause my other car was totaled in a hurricane and I couldn't wait.

Actually my sister was looking for a C.V. Sport also in 07 but found zero so she settled on the LS Grand Marquis.

Both of those Panthers were former rentals.

I asked the dealer at the time to check around at other dealers and they found zero sports...I know there are some around [see one every once in awhile in a parking garage in Miami Beach] but looks like they are just keeping them or just selling them to people they know.

Ford has been doing this for a long time. Job 1 2003s had pockets on the front of the front seats, clock in the centre of the dash, black b-pillars, extended overhead console, etc. for instance. Second production run (Job 2) - no map pockets, no clock, body colour b-pillars and shortened overhead console. They used to have some very nice features, such as illuminated key rings on the doors that were also discontinued. When I saw the 2009 LS at the showroom, a supposedly 'fully loaded' model - no power passenger seat, no compass, no overhead console, no power adjustable pedals, no steering wheel controls other than cruise - I was quite put off. IMO, 2008 was a very good year. Over here, they came with Marauder spoilers too until 2009.

On the age thing...I bought a CV at 25. Sold it 3 years later toa kid who was 25. (A weighlifter too. Found that odd, but it was a baddazz car, so I guess it makes sense.)

Great cars. I was behind one the other day on the highway and admired its curves. I'm still a fan. So much room, comfort and MPG for the money. To heck with the naysayers, we know a good car when we see one!

At last, I joined the Panther Club, too. Last Thursday I purchased a 2008 Grand Marquis GS with 29,000 miles. It's dark Toreador Red with pale tan leather. I had wanted one of these for a long time, but waited until I could see my way clear. It's everything I hoped it would be, and more. I do hope Ford has a change of heart and keeps these in production, because I love these big, traditional American bruisers.

Congrats on your "new" Grand Marquis! I think that's the same color as Mom's '08 Crown Vic. Enjoy it- either the Ford or Mercury version, they are *Great* cars.
