And they do it because they used to be a provider, im not questioning that.
If MB spec where OEM oil entry clearly says it's a separate entity is not enough for you - there was a VOA which showed it's not Mobil 1. I don't remember exactly what they found and I don't care really. Also, I had a thread here going on talking on differences between Mobil 1 and OEM oil, easy to find

Anyways folks, I'm just saying what I know.
I've talked to a mechanic at a MB dealer once and he shared a secret they use Pennzoil.
Another dude when asked what oil was used told me 229.52 Mobil 1. When I asked him to show me the jug - he brought Mercedes OEM 5w40 229.5
All I'm trying to tell you is that those service advisors don't always know what they're talking about.
If your fan of Mobil 1 there's 0w40 deal going at Costco for $28 6qt, delivered for free to your house. Let me know if you don't have costco and I can help you order it in case needed

No, you are CLAIMING they do. You've presented nothing that counters that they provide the factory fill for the AMG Mercedes cars, nor that they are no longer the recommended service fill, even if Mercedes has produced a branded lubricant now.

They do it, likely because they still provide that oil to Mercedes.

It's not enough for me, because:
- All it shows is Mercedes as the supplier for the Mercedes-branded lubricants, it says nothing of the factory fill
- Since we should all be aware that Mercedes doesn't blend oil, that means somebody else is blending it for them and that very well could be Mobil
- Whomever blends the Mercedes-branded lubricants would do so to Mercedes specs. So if that is Mobil, one should not expect it to be a carbon copy of Mobil 1. That was never the case for BMW 5w30 when it was blended by Castrol, it was never the case for TGMO as blended by Mobil for Toyota.

I know several mechanics at the local MB dealer and I do the dealer's IT. Dealers are often free to use whatever they like that meets the spec as their bulk product, if they carry one. Our local Ford dealer uses Mobil for example.

Do you know who produced that Mercedes OEM 5w-40 229.5 oil? It could very well have been Mobil. They have produced it for Mercedes in the past. That in no way means that the product would chemically mirror another from Mobil's product line.

Thx for posting. The only thing is it's from 2014 when they was no MB OEM jug I believe? I'm not certain anymore.
I am dead sure there was 2 VOA on MB oil and MB amg oil which showed different contents from Formula M.
I even remember MB AMG oil was a disappointment, like a regular 229.5 oil nothing too fancy.

Anyways, I'm just going to stock Mobil 1 0w40 from Costco and forget now

I wouldn't expect the Mercedes-branded oils to look like Mobil products for the reasons I mentioned. They are likely blended to whatever price-point or spec Mercedes wanted. The 5w-40 appears to be a majority Group III product from the MSDS for example, nothing spectacular there.

Yup. One of our local MB dealers was using Valvoline as their bulk 229.5 fill.

That may be an old image or there is more than one supplier. It may also depend on the market. That bottle looks funky, but some of the others like this one (Petronas):

This is the 0w-40, the label date is 2014, so it's roughly in-line with the MSDS dates I posted from above:

You should wait a week or so. Mobil usually has a $12 rebate on 5+ quarts which traditionally starts in March. Usually it's cheaper buying the 5 quart jug at Walmart.
