Hi all, it seems hard to find locally. If I use M105, would I be able to use something else other than M205..46$ for 32oz of each, buying only one would be nice...my paint needs a pretty good DA job to remove tons of swirls/scratches. Ultimate compound didnt seem to do much so I need to go with something that cuts more. Advice? I will be using a HF DA. Thanks!

It's $46 a bottle up there? It is $20 on amazon in the states. I have used M205 quite a bit and get very good results. I would try to find it cheaper online.

Rolla,

I bought M205 at Pep boys when I was in Pittsburgh.

What's the closest mid size town in NY state close to Montreal? Plattsburg New York? Is there a Pep boys there that might have it in stock?

If it needs a real buffing out the DA is the wrong tool for the job.
A rotary buffer with compound will get it right if the scratches are not too deep. Too deep and you cant get them out without getting the paint too thin and should be lightly sanded and corrected with clear first.
Show it to a body and paint man for advice before using really aggressive compounds, you can smoke the paint.

Was thinking of using the lake country orange pad.

Good advice, I had no idea that a DA was not the right tool. Thank you

You can still use a DA. The results won't be the same as a rotary, but the risks are also less.

Try changing out pads to microfiber cutting pads if the foam pads aren't working for you. I really like the Meguiars Micro Fiber pads.

You can also find M105 and M205 along with a few other Meguairs liquids at HF. One of the few great finds at HF, specially when you use the 20% coupon on top.

Meguiars D300 works pretty well too. I tell myself its in-between M105 and M205, but D300 is designed to work with the microfiber cutting pads specifically.

Look at this thread. Sure a DA can do it but you need heavy cutting pads and it will take a lot longer and longer and possible generate more heat.

This is not any bigger than you are using now, its easy to learn with and the pads are a decent pad for what you want to do with it, working time to correct a slightly damaged surface on a panel panel is only a few minl.
PM me if I can help with using it properly and the product that I find work best for these machines.

Plattsburg makes sense but you can probably look up any auto parts store near there and they should have it. I have seen 105/205 in Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance auto etc.

But m105/205 is a great combo for removing and perfecting clearcoat. It's been a round forever. What kinda pad are you using on the DA? If you have some serious scratches you might want to consider an orange pad or even a very light wet sand depending on how deep the scratches are and your level of skill.

M105/M205 is the professional paint-shop safe version of Ultimate Compound/Ultimate Polish. If you need more cut than Ultimate Compound, you'll need to use a more aggressive pad or faster speed. However, in my experience on 4 cars using Ultimate Compound, I never needed more cut. In fact 3 cars I didn't go beyond Ultimate Polish for specific bird bomb areas and one car no polish at all, just paint cleaning.

There is only so much clear coat on your car. Keeping that in mind, simply cleaning the paint with clay bar and then using a light polish to scuff off swirl edges and contains fillers makes a car look 95% as good as a perfect scratch free vehicle for the average joe. It's only detailers or concourse judges that'll care.
