Mazda CX-5 2.5L NA Engine

Has a very tiny oil filter.
Smallest oil filter I've seen over the years.

What's up with that? Just curious.

Free dealer oil changes are over and baby is going off milk (0W-20) ...
Beef. It's what's for dinner. :ROFLMAO:

Thank you!

Yes, in manual also. I was just surprised NGK, Denso, etc. doesn’t list a plug that fits. Only available at Mazda.
Are you expecting a specific plug related to cylinder deactivation?

When I enter the info on NGK's website for my CX5, they list the expected spark plugs in their parts lookup catalog.

Everything I see says VIN code ‘L’ or except VIN code ‘M’ which I have in both my Mazdas. I’ll look again. Maybe they list them now?

Does your CX5 have cylinder deactivation?

Edit: you’re right! I swear it used to say “VIN code L” for all of them. Every one. NGK website also.

I should ask you what spark plug goes in my two Mazdas. Not available ANYWHERE except Mazda. Both cars in my sig have cylinder deactivation (VIN code 'M'.) Don't need them yet, but will eventually. Can't find the proper NGK, Denso, etc in aftermarket.
Shoot me the last 8 of your VINs either here or a DM and I can give you the numbers.

I just bought another 10 oil filters on eBay. Tokyo Roki made in Japan. A proper oil filter. I was using the Thailand made maza filters before this after the dealer stopped stocking the Japanese filters. The car will never know the difference and neither will anyone else but I will.

Yes. Until recently, there WAS NO aftermarket plug. Mazda also calls out a specific plug.

As I posted earlier, the aftermarket listings for both my Mazdas used to say VIN Code 'L', but nothing called for a VIN code 'M', which is cylinder deactivation. Even NGK and Denso did not have a plug listed.

That recently changed.

EDIT: OOPS, @bdcardinal beat me to it, showing the very specific plug.

What are the differences between the filters made in Japan vs Thailand?

A quick change of subject:

Since some knowledgeable people are here, I am wondering if there is a way to disable the cylinder deactivation feature.

There is no option in the menus. Curious if it can be deactivated via the OBD-II port?

Maybe it's worth another thread or it has already been answered but since we are here I thought some of you may know.

Maybe it's not an issue but I like all 4 cylinders to work as oppose to only 2.

Per Mazda they say it can't be done. But it is likely because they are bound to engine configuration by CAFE.

Interesting. I wonder if that's a later model/2024 thing?

The plot thickens since here's the listing from NGK for my 2020, which lists the same plug part you showed. Neither the summary nor the detailed page has anything about CD listed.

Not sure. INteresting for sure. I am still a way off from needing plugs in either of my Mazdas, but this one had caught me off guard a bit.
