Please excuse my ignorance, but exactly how do i crank my engine without turning the key?

It sounds like I manually bull a belt? Is this possible in a 91 civic DX (1.5L d series). If someone points me in the right direction i'll look at my engine and figure it out.

I understand that manually cranking the engine after a piston soak will expel loose carbon away from the pistons and rings and prevent damage to rings. (If my cat &/or O2 sensors get damaged i'll live with it)

thanks for reading

Thanks you for responding. Again, pardon my ignorance, but i didn't know that was possible. So i guess that's worth a try (or worth asking my mechanic to try anyway).

Plugs out and kill the fuel and spark. Look for the fuel pump relay/fuse or the injector relay/fuse and pull it (them). Also pull the ignition relay/fuse. Then crank away with some rags or paper towels over the spark plug holes.

Same thing you would do if were doing a compression test.
