Can different gear oils,same weight,cause more or less transmission gear noise?
I changed gear lube in a Chevy truck with a SM420 4 speed.Drained out a generic 80-90 GL5,put in CRC 80-90 GL4.
Never noticed the noise before the oil change,maybe I'm listening too closely
The noise is a light rattle when accelerating at low rpm's in third gear.No,it's not the engine and guys familiar with old Muncie car 4 speeds know the sound.
