Mach-E sales drop 40% - Fickle market

Lack of clarity with regards to tax credits for 2023? Economic concerns. How did all automakers do in Dec-Jan?
Sometimes hard to get specific numbers, but 45% drop is a kick in the teeth, especially for a new vehicle that is supposed to be in demand.
Overall Ford was down 18% from Dec - Jan.

Not good - just this August was the first time I ever paid above sticker - albeit they’d slipped in LoJack - all these coatings/treatments, N2, etc - that the person who ordered it had accepted … (then failed loan attempts) …

I am surprised, which is why I started this thread. There is anti-Tesla/Musk crowd and the Ford loyalists. I figured the Mach-E might significantly eat into Model Y sales, but that hasn't happened. But it is still early in the EV game. Who knows?

The article says the F-150 Lightning numbers are dropping off as well. Again, I don't think the dealers are doing Ford any favors.
I was behind a gorgeous blue F-150 the other day; I noticed there were no tail pipes... Hmmm... Then I saw this lightning bolt on the right corner. This truck is not for me, but it looked pretty cool. I liked it.
The Mach E has some fleas.

-Slow charging
-Bad electrical components (the battery packs are abysmal, as is the wiring, etc. to the point that Ford limits full power to 5 seconds at a time).
-Handling is typical Mustang (it plows through cones in a moose test)

Hopefully the Mach-E will become the SN95 Mustang of EVs. In a few years you'll see them running around with trash bags taped where windows should've been, five different color body panels, mismatched tires and wheels, etc. etc.

I don't think anyone is surprised that they've sold poorly.
The camaro of mustangs in other words

I would think January is a bad month in most businesses, people are usually broke from the holidays. A more accurate representation of sales figures for EVs would be yearly sales. I wouldn't base anything on a month, or even a quarter, especially with something fairly new.
Q1 is always my worst quarter in business. People are broke, have spending fatigue, are occupied with taxes, and other very busy Q1 stuff.

The writing is on the wall for bad EV sales. Ford EV branch is reeling, Tesla had great growth but missed expectations Q4 (although the stock is now doing very well again), TM and GM have dialed back on EVs.

I think it's a combination.
* Dire economic outlook
* Saturated EV market. They are cars for the wealthy, and require a house and home charger, and a warm climate with reliable energy and infrastructure. It's a saturated market. If you fit in that category, and want an EV, you probably already bought one in the last 2 years.
* False advertising. They are marketed toward a certain personality type with unique social values but as it turns out these are not the socially responsible vehicles they're marketed as. People are figuring this out.
* Overpromising and under-delivering.

I was curious, so I googled up some Mach E commercials.

The last one missed the mark, from what I understand though, as only EV's like the Kia EV6/Ioniq5, and Lighting can power your home, unless I missed something.

As to saturated market...nah. New EV's with new features are coming out all the time, the market is far from saturated, as people with EV's will often trade cars and try a few, like myself, until we find the one we like, and of course just like gas cars, new improved models come out all the time, and we upgrade, etc.

I think Ford should be kicked in the teeth for dragging the iconic "Mustang" name into this EV foray. I have no dog in this fight but for goodness sake have some rectitude.
I agree of all the names they had to choose from they picked Mustang, and imo ruined the name. If they're smart maybe they'll give that EV a different name. Edsel comes to mind of they're going to reuse names.. ;)

Ford has caught more flack for this than any other aspect of the vehicle. Why they couldn't launch the Bronco on OJ's birthday like they originally planned, but DID have the stones to do this...is why Ford is Ford.

That would have been brilliant. All kidding aside Ford was my favorite by far, now the only thing I thing they make that is any good imo is that Godzilla engine. As for anything else they offer for me it's a big (n)(n)

Ford is the most milquetoast company I know of. Everything they do is aimed at mediocrity to appeal to the middle of the bell curve. They always contemplate greatness, or maybe indulge in it is super limited capacity, but never as a way of life. They could be epic. Instead they just...exist.

Stranger yet - Ford has plenty SUV/CUV models now - they even start with “E” …
How about Escape-E … No, uh, wait …😷

That's right. I remember the OJ non-sense, that would have been right at the top of their dumb moves over the past century plus...

It’s not even the retro year look and legacy they went after + dealers will kill Bronco too with insane markup’s …

Yep, the Bronco imo is a joke too.

I had high hopes.

Bronco is exactly what I thought it would be. Mediocre. Ford. Ford doesn't do "excellent" unless you count "most area under the bell curve". Literally everything they mass produce is soft and weak and tailored for middle American malaise. It sells, for sure! But it's...just not excellent.

I agree, which is why I'm no longer a fan boy. I gave up on them years ago.
