M1 vs. Wix vs. Motorcraft vs. Hastings vs. Bosch

Good choices I think. If I could find Wix that close to the Baldwin price here I'd probably stay with them as well but with the expensive filters I've bought recently I may just go back to them anyway. I may try the Bosch too if I order online and it works for shipping.

Yes, I remember your original post about that and agree, I wouldn't use that model of Wix/NG.
Oddly, for my application, the Wix/NG has more media square inches than almost any other brand. I guess it's good to cut open any Wix/NG model under consideration and have a look.

r_r, is that the 51348 that you are reffering to? I am curious as to how close it is to the 51040. Anyone compared the two? I will have to hang on to the elements from now on and snap a pick with a bunch together. I have a 51348 to open up but not a 51040.

^I know the 51334 Wix I cut open was really cramped, small amount of media overall to the naked eye. It figures with their strange thread-end bypass setup.

That filter is generally considered the 'largest' straight cross-referenced for apps like mine, but I don't think it has the most media at all. I'd imagine the PureONE PL14459 has a little more media, no less anyway, and the Amsoil EaO20 I took off probably has more media than the Wix as well.

That being said, I'd still use a Wix/NG/Carquest Blue with confidence. Your app may vary, as r_r pointed out.

The 14459 has ~85 sq-in of media.

You probably know this, but Wix tends to have deeper pleats than Purolators due to a smaller diameter center tube. They can be deceiving unless actually measured.

It's probably my corporate rate that saves me. The 51365 lists at $14.33 and I get it for $8.60, and the 51515 for $5. That Bosch price of under $5 a piece for the G from Autopartsway is very hard to beat. If they had the WeatherTech mats I want in stock, I'd be good to go.

Actually, I didn't know the numbers, nor the deeper pleats info. That taken into account, may make the sq inches of media for the Wix actually pretty solid, since it has such a wide diameter for the element, a smaller center tube would help with media.

That is a nice discount! They have WeatherTech mats? I never noticed that. I will have to check that out and maybe order some Bosch filters from there as well.

Yes, my local Wix supplier treats me right. Considering what we pay for oil and filters up here, it's nice to have at least one local retailer providing a quality filter at a good price, instead of facing the Orange Wall of Doom at Walmart or CT or Partsource.

Autopartsway does, indeed, have the Weathertech mats. I desperately want a set for my G, and their price is a couple bucks cheaper with free shipping than is the including price of the mats and shipping from the manufacturer. Unfortunately Autopartsway is out of stock for the G. If they had them in stock, I'd get my free shipping and a bunch of filters. So, I guess I'm waiting a bit longer.

As it is, the Wix is treating me well. I like thread end bypass, but don't like the chintzy media, so it's six of one or half dozen of the other until I oversize.

The other alternative is to see if I can get any local parts shops to start ordering from Worldpac, then I can get the stuff locally and at my corporate discount. I was successful with an Audi/VW shop, but that doesn't do me much good anymore.

My G's WeatherTech mats are back in stock today, so I ordered them along with four Bosch filters. That should keep me going for a little while, anyhow.
