Then you haven't tried to find a pennzoil, Quaker state or shell PDS.

Aside from that are the uoa's comparable? Interpreting oil specs is relatively new for me.

PP vs M1 has a better add pack, and has a reputation for cleaning ability, and quiet operation. Having said that M1 is a good oil.

I've used both. I buy based on cost and we have more sales on sopus than M1 here.
I refuse to pay more than 25 bucks a jug now,and when I see the jug prices hit that level I buy lots of them.
Its impossible to call one better than the other. Too many variables to consider. One may perform better than the other in one application vs another.
Some applications become more acoustically obvious with one product and are less obvious with the other
They both will keep an engines innards spotless unless there is major engine defect.
My stash is primarily sopus with some Amsoil, redline,RP with some mos2 and cera-tec for colour.
I prefer sopus because I hate Mobil however if the price was right my shelves would stocked with grey bottles.

The newest uoa's I've seen of M1 have been excellent. I'll probably put M1 in my gf's Mustang this weekend.

I actually find their marketing is severely lacking, up here in Canada at least. A couple of years ago they brought out Ultra, but didn't really advertise it at all, and it was only sold in Walmart and the pricing structure was very strange as it was actually priced lower than Platinum. That was good for Ultra users (like myself at the time) but it confused the customers, as they just assumed Platinum was the better product. I think because of that confusion, along with the fact that Walmart was the only one to sell it, led to it's ultimate demise up here. They dropped the ball big time, they could have marketed it better and made it available in more stores (like Canadian Tire, which sells way more oil than Walmart up here) but they just let it flounder.

I think they have similar performance. I am a slight Mobil 1 fan because I often cheered for McLaren, and the past 15 years or so they have had some small Mobil 1 sponsorship/partnership.

Furthermore, whenever I send rebates and/or the Mobil 1 Rewards into Mobil, they get the rewards posted fast and rebates out fast. To me, that is a sign of a pretty good/kind company.

The Mobil 1 guys shouldn't necessarily be grouped in with the entire corporation.

To me, marketing wise, Mobil 1 is psychologically positioned higher than Pennzoil Platinum. I know Mobil 1 has EP, so really EP = PU and regular M1 = PP. Nevertheless, I feel in store placement and whatnot even regular Mobil 1 is positioned as one of the top options. The Mobil 1 name is worth a lot at this point.

I guess some could argue Mobil Super Synthetic = Pennzoil Platinum, but that wouldn't be fair to the superb things we've seen out of PP.

Compare the data sheets and you'll see some differences.

Mobil 1 is a little thicker than PP at operating temps in the 20 and 30 weights.

M1 0w20 has a far better MRV at -40c than PP0w20, but other M1 grades don't publish that info.

M1 has more approvals.

M1 at least claims to be good for a 10,000 mile OCI. PP makes no such assertion.
