M1 5W30 EP vs ESP : Which would you run a longer OCI with ?

Don’t understand your point here? SP is of those, BY FAR least stringent.
Sorry I should have quoted better, You said esp had more ZDDP.

Take into consideration that ESP has much more ZDDP content than EP.

You forgot this part from their web site where it says: for further information, look at Mobil1 Limited Warranty:
"
The Mobil 1 limited warranty is valid for 10,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.

Additional requirements for all Mobil 1 products include:

  • Oils must be put in service not later than five (5) years from the date of purchase; and
  • an oil change must be completed every twelve (12) months."
That's for regular mobil1

What the period of coverage is
The Mobil 1 Extended Performance limited warranty is valid for 20,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.

Additional requirements for Mobil 1 Extended Performance include: 1) Oils must be put in service not later than five (5) years from the date of purchase; and 2) an oil change must be completed every twelve (12) months.
In practice, the warranty isn't worth much. Any synthetic can go 1 year, but maybe EP is worth it if you drive many miles in a year.

Extreme performance?
I mean PPE 5W40 has Porsche A40 approval, which requires 8X1hrs of Nordschleife run. What extreme performance test does Ultra Platinum has?

Also, Euro oils have higher ZDDP levels, which are antioxidants.

Agree with Edy. What is "extreme performance"?? I think this is a marketing term. I would suspect that they have a higher profit margin on PUP and probably want to push people to this.

That's for regular mobil1

Any BITOG old timers remember ANYONE ever successfully pursuing a warranty claim with Mobil 1 or Pennzoil (I think they have a 500k mile warranty)? Honestly the fine print here doesn't seem too hard to follow. Probably proving it's an engine lubricant related failure might be hard.

The EP seems to be a relatively unremarkable oil according to the PDSC and KRL testing in this video. The ESP 5w-30 is not tested and I believe it is quite a different oil than the ESP 0W-30 shown in the video. The 5W-30 does not contain Esters like the 0W-30. The 5w-30 would probably show better PDSC times than the 0W-30 due to the base oil differences. The video provides a good perspective on performance oils vs everyday oils as far as longevity. The ESP 5w-30 seems like a more serious oil than EP. It's pricing in Canada reflects that, as it rarely goes on sale, while EP is often discounted.

This is an interesting debate. On one hand ESP carries approvals that require extended drain capabilities in Europe. On the other hand EP claims 20k in only perfect conditions.

In my opinion EP in severe conditions under performs ESP as I’ve seen some varnish following the OLM posted on here. My vote is ESP.
It's kind of puzzling to me how we're treating OEM approvals as merely co-equal with oil marketing claims.

As if it's equally authoritative to have some oil company make a claim about the product vs having a carmaker test that product and sign off on it to their own stringent requirements.

But, Triple Action???

@Patman What do you think about a '24 civic 2.0 strictly highway driven with some light highway stop and go? I run 300 miles a week on the highway ( takes me no time to get on the highway for the commute ). Im running EP now and have been... I usually go for a 6-7500oci, wondering if it would be worth stretching out to 10k? Utilizing the OEM filter as well. I may do a analysis and see, which we know is the best way to determine if its working. I dont mind the few extra bucks on the M1 EP oil, but just curious if I can go further, really dont want to get sludge etc.

With that type of driving with the port injected 2.0 you can do 10k intervals with EP and you should not have any issues with sludge. Doing a UOA is a great way to confirm that the oil can handle the longer intervals.
