M1 0w40 with Volvo oem filter, no makeup oil added.

You asked if this is Mobil 1 0W/40, and judging by the additives, we'd say yes. This oil was run
about the same miles as the last, and wear metals look about the same. The steady trends you're starting to
develop are a great indication that your engine is in good shape and isn't developing any problems. The
minor amount of fuel is okay. Low insolubles and low silicon show proper oil and air filtration, and the 4.1
TBN is still solid. You mentioned the oil is to be changed soon, but you could leave it in use up to another
2,000 miles, if you want. Nice Volvo!

First number is latest sample, second number is sample taken at 37,293 (7396 miles on oil) and third number is universal average. The samples were taken before the oil was changed which is why the miles don't exactly match with the odomoter readings. The reference to whether the oil is really M1 0W40 was the response to a question I asked. Wanted to make sure dealer really using M1.

Do you guys agree with Blackstone that the amount of fuel is small enough so as to not be a problem? Any guess as to the cause of the fuel that's there?

Well ANY amount of fuel is not good but i've seen worse, you get fuel by lots of idle time and or Short drives/commutes to name a few.

did you drive the vehicle and get the oil nice and hot before the sample?

I thought it was pretty hot but to be perfectly honest, I don't remember all that well. The sample was taken with a pump and I know that I drove before taking the sample. I just can't remember how long I drove. Taking lots of short trips and/or lots of idle time is not really what this car gets.

Great information - I have a pair of Volvos with the same engine and running the same combo...nice to know it's a good fit

- Thanks for the post!

I stumbled on the M1 0W40 because one of the Volvo dealers in Charlotte also sells Saabs. They stock this oil because it's specified for the Saabs. I came here to ask about the oil and Doug Hillary encouraged me that it was an outstanding product and a good fit for this particular engine. I was considering doing a run of GC, but these uoas and Doug's opinion (that I value highly)caused me to decide to stick with this regime.

My cuz has a new C30, and I have to bring him along with the lube situation for these engines. Although not extremely hard on oils, I just don't want him to run it low, and I don't have confidence M1 0w-40 is the best oil in this regard.

I doubt I can get him to do a UOA, but I want him to be knowlegeable about it. He's talking about 15k changes.
