Interesting news from the CMP.. I will definetly be ordering one. It will fit in well with my CMP M1, 1903 and 1911.

My guess was more in the $2k range, but we will see. I wasn't aware they were mostly out of M1's, and that what they had were "reclaimed" drill rifles.

Yes, and no.

I have an M1A. It’s one of my favorites. Unfailingly reliable, fun to shoot, easy to clean.

But a former US Army rifle is a piece of history in a way that my M1A is not.

I have the whole history of US service rifles since they went to brass cartridges. Springfield model 1884. Springfield model 1896 (Krag-Jorgensen). Two 1903s. Two 1917s. M1 carbine. And several M1 Garands.

An M-14, an actual M-14, would be a great addition to the collection.
