I don't quite get it-the watercooler deal. Do you mean it was just rumors or something? Well, it was not rumors. The woman who had used LSD when she was younger personally told me about it. I did not hear it through the rumor mill. And the woman who huffed told me. Where I work we don't have time to spend around the watercooler. In fact, another woman I worked with long ago in the past was arrested for heroin. I don't think she was doing it when she worked with me. I did not notice track marks or anything like that. She never told me anything about it but I know she went to jail.
If you take a look around there are a lot of people doing drugs. Not just weed but some really nasty stuff. Stuff like meth that messes human beings up.
Other than booze I never got into the drug scene and I am very happy I did not get involved with drugs. I could have gotten into trouble because of booze but I was lucky and I am too old now and interested in more important things to become an alcoholic. I can't say that I never drink but it is rare and actually if I never had another alcoholic drink in my life I would not miss it.
But I have seen what drugs have done to people. Now when I was young I did not mind the 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds song,' although it was hardly my favorite song or anything like that. But everybody could read through the song, which I think I said above. So you see it was obvious to me. It was obvious to everybody. And I think you can say that there was at least a slight attempt to conceal the actual meaning. Not clever or deep or anything but it is not like he flat out said 'LSD.' He said 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' so that he could claim he was talking about some woman.
There was a time in history, if you study history, when a lot of hidden messages were put into songs, artwork, and even children's stories. A time when people did not dare to speak openly. Today, some people put silly hidden messages in songs and think it is cute. There is a big difference from what people did in the past with hidden messages compared to what some people do today. At least in this country where I live a person could walk down the street and say just about anything they wanted to and not get arrested. Not so long ago if anybody did something like that they would suffer very greatly and be put to death.
Was Lennon actually under the influence of drugs when he or whoever wrote the song? I don't know. I don't care. Back in those days there were a lot of people using drugs, although today we may be even worse off because they are really using some nasty stuff today. Personally, I feel that drugs are for losers.
I don't have time at work to hang out around the watercooler.
