Has anyone ever used Lube Guard products (engine flush, trans, engine additive, etc) and if so, how did they work? I just bought some of the trans additive (red bottle) for my trans in my tundra because those transmissions in the early model tundras need all the help they can get.

I haven't found a lubegard product that doesn't work.

IMO, engine flushes are not needed if your OCI and oil chosen is reasonable. Stick with full synthetic oil and reasonable OCI.

Use a full synthetic ATF and no additives are needed. Also, better filtration/cooling will help ANY and ALL transmissions last longer. Practicing a reasonable drain/refill regimen or full flush interval will help.

Engine oil additives also aren't needed unless you're trying to prevent some issue. Do you have sludge, varnish, or annoying noises? If no, then don't bother.

In my truck I have no probs, noises or anything. The only reason I wanted to get the lube guard additive for my transmission is because I have read numerious posts in the toyota forums about the early model tundras having weak plantary gears in the transmission.

I have used the transmission additive in all my Ford work transmissions. Smooth like butter. A few with over 200,000 miles one with over 300,000 miles.

I recently tried their flush on a work Explorer 4.0 L. My vehicles are well maintained (5000 OCI with mostly name brand synthetics) The drained oil was the nastiest I have seen from this Explorer. I added the engine additive with Maxlife 5w30 synthetic. The engine sounds and runs great.

I am sold and am using the products in all my vehicles.

cool, thx for the input. I hope it protects my transmission because the transmissions in the early tundras are known for probs.

I used their trans stuff to make M1 work for a +3 application. It did the job no converter chatter. I'll naturally use Amsoil ATF for the next exchange.

As undummy recommends, get auxiliary filtration. Just a Mangefine if you don't want to play with the spin-on type. It's very cheap to add ..even for a larger capacity filter ..or even a bypass (like an Amsoil BP80A).

You will like that Amsoil ATF in lieu of +3. I have had it in my A604 for 3 years now.

I have used the LubeGard AT protectant (red bottle) in a 1995 Taurus and a 2002 Impala. Although it is the position of some OEMs that any additive is a contaminant, it did not do any harm and seemed to improve the shift quality. However, it won't do anything for weak planetary gears. IMO, synthetic lube might be more helpful for that problem or at least prolong the inevitable replacement of the parts.

Just courious when using lube guard red how often do you change the atf? When you change the atf do you add another bottle?

I only drive my truck a few thousand miles per year so I may change it every 5 years or so. I do a trans flush (about every 10-15k) each time I change it I'll add a new bottle each time. I have heard wonderful things about this additive even if you use syn ATF. If you just do a drain and fill IMO, I'd prob add one every other time.

I just flushed my power steering pump today with Valvoline Dexron III synthetic ATF as the owner's manual reccomended. I was looking at the lube gard products at the local napa and the bottle for the power steering fluid says to add it to any type power steering fluid and the transmission additive says add it to any type ATF for the transmission. Well, since I used ATF in my power steering pump, do I use the transmission additive or the power steering fluid additive? I noticed on the bottles for the power steering pump it just said "add it to any power steering fluid" it didn't say specifically add it to the power steering pump, etc. Same thing with the AFT additive. It just said "add it to any type ATF fluid." Just confussed which I should use. Thx guys.
