Hello everyone. I realize this isn't a place for medical advice so please spare me the lecture. Just seeing if anyone has experienced this same thing. On my waist line right off center to the left of my belly button hurt like no other. it started Tuesday I went to the doctor Wednesday and they took blood work . Which came back normal. Before the blood work came in they thought I may have diverticulitis. Then the other doctor mentioned appendicitis. I'm not ill. I just have this really bad pain. If you push on it I'll about cry. If I move wrong lift my left leg bend over lift stuff cough ect it hurts. I have no fever all things are normal except the pain. They ruled out hernia as I have no odd bulging ect. I have a CT scan Monday but I have waiting. I did notice I've been kind of bloated today but that's really the only other symptom. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? And if you have had diverticulitis or appendicitis what was your experience if you don't mind sharing? The pain for me is a stabbing Sharon stinging pain it is so terrible. When I'm just sitting still it really doesnt hurt it may be mild discomfort but that's all. Very weird feeling indeed and so far the doctors have been less than terrific. Just looking for thoughts and conversation regarding this. Thank you everyone.

Low and to the right is the Appendix...here in Oz, that would be the first thing they look at.
If the pain gets worse just as you release the pressure on it, it's pretty likely that's it.

I had my Appendix taken out on my 18th birthday. Yeah, not my favorite birthday to this day. Anyway, my scar is on my right side above the waist line.

I'm not a Doctor, but pain left of your belly button would seem to indicate something else.

I hope the Doctors find the issue, and it's an easy fix. Best to you for a quick recovery.

I'd think appendix too, not a bad idea to get another opinion from a different doctor.

I read it as right of centre...but you say left.

Left unlikely appendicitus unless one of the rare people with Situs Inversus.

Left lower quadrant pain is more consistent with diverticulitis or some other type of colitis. You can still have diverticulitis despite relatively normal labs. And I wouldn't rule out hernia yet, especially if the pain gets worse with lifting or coughing. The CT will give you a better idea.

Place I used to work, had a welder that worked until his appendix rupturing, The high fever got him to the dr. Massive antibiotics later, he was fine. pain perception varies a lot.

Yep, I was going to say the same thing. A CT scan will tell you if there are diverticula (expanded pockets) in the Sigmoid Colon wall (see diagram and link below).

If the diverticula are infected, the it's called diverticulitis. If they think you have diverticulitis the Doc will probably prescribe a penicillin based antibiotic to see if it cures the problem. If not, then more testing will have to be done - probably a colonoscopy to see what thing look like.

If it wasn't you appendix and the blood work was good, I wonder why they didn't send you to a specialist? I'm thinking a gastrointestinal specialist.

For heaven's sake!
Do you ask your doctor for motor oil advice????
Maybe this isn't the best place to ask for medical advice.....

And shame on the rest of you for trying to advise him!!!

Do you talk to family, friends and workmates about how you are feeling on a day to day basis ?

Well, you've been to the Dr once, the obvious question would be is this your regular, trusted family MD or did you just pop into a clinic?

Absolutely must rule out appendix, as a burst appendix means you have hours to live without emergency medical care. Plus apparently it's unbelievably painful, so something we'd like to avoid even if medical care is minutes away.

Sometimes pain doesn't manifest itself directly at the problem area. Maybe pressure at one point is causing pressure at a second point, and that's where the pain seems to come from. Personally, were it me, I would return to my Dr and ask for a referral to a gastro specialist, or if not then some appropriate testing (CT scan, maybe ultrasound, etc).

I rarely go to the Doc, maybe once every 10 years or so... But I am going to do just that at the next opportunity.

Try again...

Do you talk to family, friends and workmates about how you are feeling on a day to day basis ?

This is general and off topic, where people talk about ... stuff that is on their mind.

With people that they have been interacting on topics technical, personal, and plain shooting the breeze for up to 15 years or so.

OP has shown that he is under medical care and assessment, and asked peers to comment.

No-one is offering diagnosis or treatment.

And doctors likely know as much about motor oil as they do about the OP's specific issue.
