Lots of new Ram trucks rotting on dealer lots it seems

It seems every Ram dealer I've driven by has a very large inventory of trucks not selling well. Is Ram in trouble?

I think the big issue is the major revamp of the power train in the 1500 for 2025 MY. Stellantis proclaimed the 5.7 Hemi V8 dead, replacing it with the Turbo Hurricane 6. I understand the local Lithia lot has plenty of Hemi vehicles, but no real incentive to sell them quickly. New buyers seem to be reluctant to buy the new Hurricane technology until it is well proven. I think Stellantis did a poor job of transitioning from the established platform to the next.

Good point and the new Tacoma seems to be suffering from a similar issue ie going from an established v6 to a 4 pot turbo.

However I’m not sure how a manufacturer would make a better transition other than offering both versions at the same time. Which would not make financial sense.

Yes, Ford did a much better job making both V8 and Ecoboost options on the truck. I don't know the year over year comparison but I assume the V8 led and was slowly overtaken by Ecoboost during the last decade.

Report cards were sent via USPS, and being neighbors the report cards arrived the same day. When the Chinese father came home from work they'd hear yelling and screaming, things banging and crashing, the boy crying his lungs out - probably because he got an A minus in something.

By absolutely no means do I condone this kind of parenting, but this is the competition. The kid's probably rolling in money right now with a high income job of some sort.

My dad was like that. Instead I left for bootcamp and talked to him one-handful a times in 15 years.

The sticker prices are unbelieveable! I believe the 1500 starts at $51K. They seem to be building the most expensive versions during a recession. It doesn't make sense to me. I saw stickers on 1500's in the $80k range.

We rented a Grand Wagoneer L for 10 days for a family trip. I understand the reluctance to embrace the hurricane engine because it is new, and I own a 5.7 hemi so I am likely biased in that direction. But I have to say that the new motor is superb. Quiet but a nice subtle growl at idle. Very refined and smooth. Extremely powerful when you need it (500hp I believe) and it has tremendous highway legs - 550 to 600 miles at 70mph and around 22-23mpg on premium fuel. Drove it about 2k miles and cannot find fault with the powertrain. Would be nice to have a dipstick true but that is an annoyance not a real issue. Rest of truck pretty impressive too - two teenage boys were happy in the second row and three good sized dogs were pleased they had their own AC vents and moonroof. The dogs didn’t need the power outlets back there however. So not sure what the sales are but an impressive, well built and solid vehicle that I would take over the Ford and GM versions, and I think those are both solid vehicles as well.

I think the reactions to the SO hurricane will be more positive as it gets into more hands. Power at least equals the hemi and the fuel economy is better. While I don’t care about MPG per se I do care about highway range and towing range, and both are superior on the hurricane because is is a more modern and efficient motor.

Dodge built a modern engine? With turbos and direct injection? Oh man...this is not going to end well.

These are going to have some reliability issues lol
They can all have teething problems. Toyota is with the V6 TT. But I actually think it will be fine because Ram/Jeep is smart enough to know that if they botched this engine, it has the potential to kill the most profitable vehicles they make. And the way the engine performs (power, efficiency, refinement) my sense is that they knew this and did not cheap out. Time will tell. Take care.

Most common issue I've heard of so far is the thermostat having a plastic flap in it that breaks, and the thermostat is then stuck on closed or open mode. Can lead to badness with the cylinder head gasket if stuck in closed mode.

Takes 2 hours to replace the thermostat, and, of course, they are on national backorder.

Yes they did...they called it the 3L Eco Diesel...and yes, it had reliability issues.

Carlos seem to think that one their biggest issues is that they don't offer an affordable EV. Yes, he actually said that.

It’s the proprietary thermostat housing. If Dodge just had a thermostat there wouldn’t be an issue.

I dunno, Ford produced the 6.0 and 6.4 diesel from '03 to '10

And the 3V Tritons from '04 to as late as '14. Everyone knew they sucked and a high percentage are no longer on the road due to mechanical issues and cost of repair, but people still bought them.

I honestly don't know how Ford survived all that, but they did. Can Ram do the same? Probably.

I'm pretty much a Ford guy but a spade is a spade. In fact just three days ago the wife's '08 F150 threw a P0345 and I hear some phaser pin chatter. I should take my own advice!!
