Our boston terrier was 15 years old. Started coughing last night and this morning the same. Clearly he was in congestive heart failure. He could not lie down and was belly breathing. Pretty much knew what the outcome would be.

Took him to the vet, chest x-ray was pretty much whited out. He had a murmur so they were pretty sure he lost his papillary muscle and had acute mitral regurgitation. We put him to sleep pretty quick.

We thought that the best gift we could give him, and the best way to honor him was to not let him suffer. Tough though, we really do miss him. We have had him half our marriage.

His name was Festus, from the old show Gunsmoke.

Very sorry you lost your pal spasm. I know how devastating it can be. I'm a big time dog lover and we lost our beloved DJ a year ago January 3rd. He was ten years old. My wife and I still feel the pain so I feel for your family. One day at a time and it slowly get better. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you guys, All the best, madeej.

Sorry to hear this. Growing up, our family had two Boston's. They were great companions.

Have you thought about another one?

You gave him a great life. I have no doubt your buddy knew it and appreciated his life with you.

My condolences.

Sorry to hear that Spasm. Household dogs are a big part of most families. I cry whenever I lose one.

Curious thou! Does the Boston Terrier shed? I'm looking ahead 4-5 more years, before searching for the next one. My current dog is 9.3 years old ..... a Miniature Schnauzer that doesn't shed. A Boston Terrier was my 2nd choice 9.3 years ago.

Thanks guys, its a tough day for my wife. That was her " teddy dog" her companion when i was not home on call. Worst part is the insurance company just came and picked up our camper that was damaged in the snow and is totaled.

She had to say goodbye to her camper and her dog.

Time will heal.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, I love this site.

Without a doubt we will get another. My wife loves the breed.

Ours did shed, a bit year round, more as he got older. I have to say it was pain to get off car fabric as the hairs are short and get into the fabric.

My condolences to you and your wife.

It's tough to have to put a pet to sleep but they rely on us for their well being. You did right by him by doing for him what he couldn't do for himself and not letting him suffer.

Time is your friend right now.
