vehicle is 09 MDX with 15,000km and i had my stuff ready to perform a cooler line flush and install a magnefine filter.
now i thought of a question; where shall i place the filter in the return line? the transmission send ATF through aux ATF cooler first, then to radiator, then back to the transmission. so, where is the best place for mangefine filter? (before AUX cooler, before radiator or after?) also i did some reading on the internet and some had suggest to place in front of cooler with low mileage system as it will help protect the cooler line. but i also read the high temp of ATF out of transmission is not good for filter and magnet. is this true? thanks.

the magnefine seems to indicate the 5000miles as cutoff for place filter in front of cooler. i like to put the filter ahead of cooler, but is is 9000 miles too much?

X2.

Place it in the feed line only if you can't get it into the return line. This happened with the Fit since the return line is 6" of bends. The feed line is much longer with long straight stretches.

thanks for the reply. the MDX feed line to cooler is quite long and has more room, but i will find room is return line to the transmission provide better protection for the unit... but is there any value protecting cooler and radiator? are sludge, wear particles being dropped at cooler and radiator more often due to temperature change?
thanks for all the help!

I look at it like this.....
For BEST protection of the transmission after the 5K mile point, install in the return line, filtering the fluid AFTER it has passed through the cooler(s).
This will catch anything that might be lodged in the cooler(s)and break free.

HOWEVER.......installing the magnefine BEFORE the cooler(s) is certainly MUCH MORE protection than not having one at all.
So.....if you end up installing it in the line before the cooler(s) don't worry about it.......as you are providing a LOT of protection that you did not have before.
Also.....you have to weigh the risk of leaks from an installation in a less-than-ideal location in the return line vs putting it into the out line.

From what I have read, the best "factory" filters inside the transmission filter to a nominal particle size of 80-100 micron.
That is if you have a filter and not a screen.
The Magnefine has a magnet and a cartridge filter that filters to a nominal particle size of 30 microns.
Also, the Magnefine has a pressure bypass to open and let fluid flow in the event that the media in the filter becomes clogged.

thanks for everyone's help. i just did the cooler line flush on the 09MDX with 2L of Maxlife and 10 quart of Redline D4. i first dump the factory fill Honda Z1 (very darnk in colour) and clean the magnet drain plug, then i fill it with Maxlife, disconnect the feed line to the cooler and start the car, it take about 15-20 second for the first 2L to come out. then i start filling the transmission with 3 quart Redline D4 at each cycle, (start/shutoff the car to flush the used Z1 out. then fill again) before the last fill, i re-connect the feed line to cooler with a new hose, and disconnect the return line to the transmission, and start the car to flush out the used fluid in cooler and radiator. and the last i cut the new feed line hose to cooler and install a magnefine filter and reconnect the return line to the transmission.
i took the car out for 10km drive and the first impression is that the transmission is very smooth, shift is fast, crisp. it also completely eliminate the slow downshift when slowing down. so far i like it very much and just upset at myself why i did not jump the Z1 in 5000km like i did with engline oil. i took a long time to study for this coolant flush..

i have not test the highway speed yet, as i need to replace the rear differentials fluid as well but i run out of D4. i will use Amsoil ATF fir differentials now.
