Been having a heck of a time getting it for a customer, Valvoline supplier in my area ordered it for me, waited 3 months for it to come in and turned out they ordered regular premium blue 10w30. Guys dead set on wanting this oil and I gotta find it somewhere asap, can someone point me to a place in or near Michigan that has it in stock?

I think its been discontinued or halted for what seems indefinitely. Basically none exist and its been a year by now since availability began to be an issue. I'd just tell the customer the news and refer to an alternative.

That oil isn't something where something similar hasn't existed before. It's just an ester packed oil. Redline, hpl, amsoil, mobil, and others make something related. Not like this valv oil was special for being well priced and easy to get or anything, they still asked for a thick penny and made you look for it. The customer will be fine with those alternative oils.

If you want an alternative to that valv and something that's more readily available and less expensive than those 3 while still being better than the majority of hdeo's for cleaning I'd suggest mobil delvac esp 5w-40 since it's got a higher tbn of 12 instead of the usual 9-10 and is catered towards longer drains which means its got a better formulation than average hdeos. These long drain oils need to keep clean for long and at least do some mild cleaning as well.

I was still able to clean my two old trucks using various cheap 15w-40's though it took several changes to get the rings cleaned out on both to where consumption is almost gone on one and now just minimal on the other which had the worst. A cheaper still and more readily available alternative is rotella t4. Has the most detergents in the sub 16 buck a gal category. I used that and did see a greater reduction in oil consumption afterwards. Likely cleaned a bit more than the others whose voa's showed less detergents.

Vesco is your only chance in MI and around MI.

If that’s who you ordered it through and they can’t get it, then it’s not available.

Update- Vesco salesman said they are an ExxonMobil distributor and only distribute Valvoline products directly for valvoline and not to the public, Called Valvoline tech support, they have over 500 cases of it nationwide at their warehouses and told me to contact Vesco. Told them that I already talked to them and was told they only distribute Vavloline but dont sell it and now waiting for a call back from somebody higher up.

@tchapps88 and @HavierH19
Nothing comes close to matching VPB "Restore" gen1. But, it was discontinued yrs ago. Gen2? good luck.
Here's info on Gen 1:

VPB Restore VOA (vis is 10.7 not 1.7):

and a UOA:

and its composition:

Nothing comes close, but I haven't seen and such analysis for Gen2.

Have you considered HPL? If its the cleaning abilities from the high solvency base oils you are after, they are a viable alternative to Valvoline Premium Restore Blue and then some... Just have look at their website on their Heavy Duty Motor Oil lineup.

That is a wild response they gave you.

Very interesting to me.

UPDATE #2- a rep from Valvoline called me back and told me this oil is done and can stop trying to order it cause there is no way to get it.

Long shot but try Cummins service on Gratiot in Clinton Township. They’re a repair/service and sales shop maybe they have old stock.

Or eBay has it for $270, case of three gallons.

I found a few gals of VPB "Restore" gen1 here on BITOG when I mentioned I was looking for some a yr or 2 ago. A member messaged me and we made a deal. :) I'm currently running a mix of it in 3 of my daily drivers :)

My (un)educated guess is they will release a HDEO Restore and Protect. If they did, that'll be the talk of the town among diesel owners.

I’m guessing we are seeing more of a division in Valvoline than they want to talk about.

I understand why Vesco is only the VIOC distributor. And I heard a rumor there’s a new Valvoline distributor in Michigan now. But it’s interesting they’re letting the distributors pseudo compete against each other. As historically, Valvoline has always been distributor friendly.

That being said. It’s a wild world being an oil distributor currently. A lot of changes… a lot.

I bought this pretty recently. You can only get it straight from Cummins. Try another Cummins dealership. Make sure they understand premium blue restore and not just premium blue. They tried giving me the regular premium blue first.

In Dec.24 went to my local San Antonio, Texas Cummins dealer and they have never heard of the VPBR Gen2, but they did have 10 single gallons of the original VPB "Restore". I picked up some more @ $80/gal. Good stuff.
I have a stash of HPL PCEO & PPCEO too.
