I have an fs85 stihl weed whacker and a husqvarna 350 chainsaw. Have had the stihl for quite sometime and done 3 carb rebuilds last one 2 years ago which is the same time I purchased the husky saw. Since then i have only used supertech 2 cycle oil at a 32:1 mix. Tends to be whatever i can find a bigger bottle of either the air cooled multi purpose or tcw3 which i have been told may not be the best for such equipment. I would just like to know if there is a readily available brand (I am not buying amsoil) that may have a good cleaning agent so I dont have as many carb issues.

I use the STIHL Syn in all my stuff..
The "correct" ratio BTW is 50:1, not 32:1 and I highly recommend using this ratio.. STIHL (and others) spent a ton of R&D $$ figuring this stuff out and IMHO trying to second guess them is prolly not the way to go..

Does your 2-strok stuff sit for extended periods (like months at a time between use) as this tends to be a big factor with these carbs.

Yes they both sit alot. The stihl sits all winter and the husky sits until there is a bad storm and then gets used to clear trees from the roads on my familys property. I dont have an owners manual on either I just assumed they would call for 40:1 and heavier would be ok as long as it burnt well. I'm sure you know the old saying about what happens when you assume though lol

Since both set a lot, go to your local Stihl dealer and see if they have any of the quart cans of the Motomix. It is an excellent product and has a two year shelf life. Unheard of with regular gasoline.

Excellent suggestion, just make sure this is the last stuff you put in before you store it.

Yup Motomix would be an excellent choice, great synthetic oil no ethanol 92 octane and a 2 year shelf life.

i tried some in my new MS311 and she screams on that stuff.

I would say its more the ethanol gas then the type of two stroke oil you are using. I try to get non-ethanol(which is hard in Florida) but I use Sea foam to stabilize the gas. One ounce to a gallon and my fuel problems have stopped and I let my chainsaws sit for months without use as well as the gas and mowers. Its the best thing I have found and the most economical to preserve the gas, non ethanol or E10.

+1

I have a Stihl chainsaw that I bought late last century.

I use it an average of twice a year and it still starts and runs flawlessly.

The important difference about the Stihl 2 cycle oils is that they already contain a fuel stabilizer. I use E-10 gas without problems.

I manage about 8 pieces of Stihl 2cycle OP equipment at work and have never rebuilt a carburator(knock on wood). Some sit for months without use. I just make sure to drain, refill, and run each piece at least every 6 months. If I think a piece will sit for years, I run it dry, but I have little experience with this.

Use stabilized fuel and manage it a bit more careful. I think we have an advantage up north in that fuels don't degrade as quick in cooler temperatures.

I think I will try out the stihl oil then.I have been using 93 ethanol free since the last carb rebuild which may be why I have been trouble free so far. The motomix sounds like a great idea for the last trimming of the season. Thanks for the help!

if you can get 93 ethanol free and mix it with Stihl HP ultra oil at 50-1, your equipment will love you. The Motomix would be one more level of insurance against carb problems in extended storage. I bought some and it works great.

I have no experience (yet) with motomix, but just today resurrected an old mccullock something weed wacker with a similar non ethanol syn oil called tru-fuel. It ran about 7 bux at my local Ace, and I sleep better knowing there is no ethanol sitting in my carb.

I just tried the Stihl synthetic and wow, what a difference it made in how my Echo string trimmer ran. Starts easily, runs wonderfully. It really made a difference.
