Looking at some used trucks?

Silverado guy and Tacoma, both have service records, as per them.

I would 100% go with the Tacoma. Do you have a link to the ad as well? If you need a big truck then the Chevy does look nice, but the tacoma is a reliable work horse even in the 4cly.

These two trucks are vastly different. One is a v8 with 4wd and much larger the other is 4cly run forever small toyota rwd.
What are you looking for in a truck besides able to tow your bike? The chevy says rust issues? All I see is some surface rust...but it might be much worse than that if they listed it. Depending on your needs is what truck works the best for you. Personally I prefer the toyota but that back seat space kinda sucks.

I did notice on the Carfax(not a deal breaker but something to be aware of), one of the last entries that it recently failed emissions inspection, then was traded in. Hopefully, dealer took care of it. Usually nice dealerships like that will wholesale vehicles that aren't top notch esp with those miles. Pics look nice esp raised up like that.
One of the guys on here bought a used 06 or 07 Accord with 500k miles on it from the dealer that was in mint condition. So when you look at the truck in comparison not too bad.

The problem I have with the Silverado is this...
That is rot. I wouldn't pay over $1K for a truck with rot that bad. As clean as most of it is, that truck will require lots of attention to mitigate the rust. Been there, done that. If it's that bad on the body, expect everything underneath to be nasty.
The 2WD I4 Tacoma looks kind of ratty, though it could have plenty of life left. First thing I would undo is the dirty hot air intake. I think the '04 4x4 with over 300K is probably a better truck since it's bone stock, clean for the mileage, and probably lived on the highway. It looks more carefully treated and maintained than the 2WD does. Ask the selling dealer what they did to fix the emissions failure, and look the truck over yourself.
You really need to shop on condition. Bone stock, rust free trucks are always the best bet regardless of make or model. After 15-20 years specific models and options don't matter so much...time has already done a lot of the weeding out for you. Personally though, if I needed to buy a third old truck tomorrow for some reason, yet another one of these is probably what would end up in the driveway...

I would pass on the silverado....so other than free it will probably be a big head ache....a truck is not something I would cheap out on...If I didn't get my truck for free I probably would never have bought it. Go for a nice toyota and don't look back
Another issue not mentioned with that era Silverado is the brake lines can rust through. That truck has some bad rust.

$1k is my personal absolute max on something like that, and that's if I have use for it as a parts vehicle. That truck has some good parts and could be a good donor vehicle, but as a complete driver it's probably close to done unless you like doing lots of body work and replacing rusty brake lines. That truck will need major work to stay on the road. It may well sell for over that, but I don't think it's worth it.
