I've decided against buying a brand new truck for the time being because I want to avoid a payment (buying a 2nd home). I have owned Ford trucks almost my entire life with one Z71 Silverado mixed in and, to be honest, I'm just looking for a little change of pace. Although I've never had many problems out of any of my F-150s, Expeditions, Excursions or the Chevy I think I've narrowed my next target to a 99+ extended cab/quad cab 5.3L Silverado Z71 for under $10k. I honestly don't know much about them other than the reported above average longevity of the motors. I've noticed a ton of these trucks have new engines and transmissions with pretty low miles, which can probably be attributed to a number of things but are there any common warning signs that I should pay attention to? My question is what should I look for?
