At the recommendation of a trusted indy, I removed my Carrera's factory filter cap and inspected the bypass valve.

It was completely loose in the housing - allowing unfiltered oil to circulate. For how long? Who knows - I never noticed it or even knew to look.

I replaced it with LN Engineering's oil filter adapter and an M1-206 filter, allowing full-flow filtration. A nicely machined piece, and it allows me to use a filter with a higher efficiency rating than factory - and NO bypass valve!

What year model? Buddy has 2014 “S” and wonder if I should tip him off on this ?
He tracks it a bit too …

You're not using a Mann, Mahle or a FU? Sacre-bleu!

Regardless, nice ride dude. Porsches are underrated even here in the Bay Area where people go ga-ga over BMW Ms or the Audi S series.

I have an XG3506 on deck! I want to see how the M1 media holds up to cold starts. If it gets wavy I'll stick with wire-backed media.

Sharp looking car. I've always liked this body style.

Same one from the beginning of Gone in 60 Seconds right?

Not really. It's only about an inch below the oil pan, and I don't do much off reading.

I will probably stick with the XG3506 past this though. The longer filters are harder to find and I think I like the idea of wire-backed media in this application.

Real beauty!!!

Do you worry about cold starts without a bypass valve? Oil is 10x thicker at room temp compared to operating temp. Generally filters without bypass valves are for engines that have an internal bypass valve.

Yeah, if there is no filter bypass valve anywhere in the system that could be somewhat risky business.

That is a beautiful car! And, of all colors, black. I bet you spend more time keeping it clean than driving it. What wax/polish/sealant do you use on it? By hand, or machine?
The louvers on the rear, do those adjust as you increase/decrease the gas?
I was going to say something about the filter being too low, but AirgunSavant beat me to it. Again, VERY nice ride.

Oil is thicker, yes, but unless it's clogged there shouldn't be that much pressure differential across the media.

Having said all that, I'm starting to second guess my filter choice and I'm thinking wire backed media and the shorter filter is the way to go.

Paranoia, eh?

I keep it under a cover unless I'm driving it. My new job gave me a truck, so now it's only a nice day car. When I bought the car I decided to try Meguiar's Ultimate line - and that's all I've ever used. Love the stuff!

Yeah, I'm rethinking my filter choice, and yeah, the spoiler comes up at 75 and drops back down below 30.
