My very favorite sponsor er...oil company looks to have chain lube now. I actually use Squirt and Rock n' Roll Gold or Wet most of the time but may give this a shot for a winter mtb/gravel bike lube.

I always seem to pick Rock n Roll gold as my go to lube for the road bike fast simple and find it most effective.

I settled on it because I can get it in a 16oz bottle, it's cheap, and does a good enough job.

"Best chain lube" vs. "Best motor oil"

What's more contentious?
Not seeing any contention in this discussion. When we moved from Pa to Az I had to find a different lube because of the vastly different trail conditions. I got some recommendations from other riders and shops. Eventually settled on RnR Gold and it's been working fine. These narrow 12 speed chains need a lot of attention here or they don't last. I'll give LM Dry a try when it becomes available, always room for improvement.

RnR Gold is so good. I use the blue bottle/wet version in winter here for trails/offroad.

Also used with good results:

Dummonde Tech (requires a bit of following a procedure) - what used before the RnR Gold and Squirt
White Lightning (reg/wet) - old school/'90s lube
Tri-Flo - smells like bananas - that was way back in the early '90s when I used it but still have the bottle...good for small moving parts

Key words..."in this discussion". Ask the same question on a bicycle forum, and look out!

On a road bike I take it?

Yes, but it would work well on a MTB as well. Silca Super Secret chain lube is signficantly better than squirt as well. I ran both on a MTB, and this is coming form someone who has ridden north of 50k miles in the last few years.
