Make sure there is no VAC on the neutral wire. If there is, bad juju......somethings FUBAR. Check both hot & neutral to gnd and to each other.
I just had a light switch fail in the garage. Cheap $%^#! started arcing! This is how fires start: Electric arcs are several thousand degrees F and plastic boxes don't protect near as well as the old metal ones.
