Lifter Tick - GM 4.8L Silverado

I may have missed it--is this a 4x4? If not, what's so hard about removing the transmission? Is it in TN also? I'd think dropping the transmission is not big work if it was 2WD. Or is the concern that once you go in for a penny, you're in for a pound? Fix one problem, find another.

Starting to sound like they'd rather drive this until it quits.

It's 2wd. The transmissionmission isn't hard to remove. They are afraid of finding more issues and currently can't afford any major repair. It was bought while it was still waiting to be unloaded off the delivery truck. It's always had electrical issues since day 1. If I remember correctly , they gave just under 18k otd for it.

Keep us posted. Some people talk about driving trucks into the ground. It will be interesting to see what “ the ground” really is. To me it’s when the engine absolutely seizes, or throws a rod through the block, or a piston and valves meld together. Otherwise engines can go a long time as long as you aren’t embarrassed by the sound and the smoke.

No smoke , just noise and unexplained oil consumption. I was just informed they have to add a quart of oil every 5 - 600 miles , engine is bone dry underneath. No check engine light or active fault codes.

Late to the party, but are you sure it's not a rocker arm? How loud is the tick? Here's a video of my 2012 Yukon when it started to make noise...begins around 15 sec.

Replaced rocker arms and all is good. Not saying yours would be the same but even a worn pushrod could remove the lash.

Exact same noise but much louder to where the radio can't drown it out.
