That certainly could be it. I probably should pull the anode rod and have a look. But I am sure the threaded connector is corroded stuck.

That's what I had to use on a failed element. The electrolysis from less than a week caused it to rust up to the point where I had to use my 38mm impact socket and half inch impact. For a moment I thought the 1/2 inch wasn't going to do it and I was going to have to go get my 3/4 drive impact, gasoline powered air compressor with 3/8 air connections and buy a 38mm 3/4 drive socket.
