Lexus GX 460 185k mi Advice sought here

@OrangePild congrats on the purchase from a fellow 2010 GX460 owner.
At your mileage, check your vehicle for the general coolant issues 1) radiator 2) water pump 3) coolant valley plate leak.
I'm currently running 5w40 and it runs smooth as silk.
Your engine calls for anything 0w20 - 15w40 per international operating manuals. It is a sweet ride.
forgive me please if it's been too long..
what's the mileage on your GX ? what year?
which oil 5W-40 brand are you using!?

I'd appreciate your help ..
mine is 23 / p+/ 20k miles ..
Northern virginia

last summer ( new'ish 0w-20 oil)
([email protected] )
on a 90° day .. after idling for 30 minutes in the heat ..rivved engine (just regularl 4-5 k rpms )
twice ( passing traafic ) ...
immediately afterwards engine sounded
( tired) clapping , noisy , just crappy !!

was baffled.. and Lost faith in 0w-20 ever since

id really appreciate any help ...
thinking of alternating between 0w20 and 5w30
winter/summer

thank you

Just get a 0W30 oil - Castrol, Pennzoil and Mobil 1 all have their formulations. If you get the euro specd 0w30 oil, you will have a HTHS of 3.5 or above which will slightly impact your fuel efficiency, but nothing major. It provides better wear protection (higher HTHS).

A 0w30 will be good for a all year round oil, no need to alternate.

Back on topic, I would only use Denso or NGK plugs, not Bosch, as in my opinion the former two are superior to the latter. . .

Don't mix oils, as I said above, stick to a 0W30 and it will be fine year round and keep OCIs to 5,000 miles (8,000 km). Coolant changes every 5 years or 40k miles and same for ATF. Diffs I would keep the same interval as well, and would use anything from Valvoline or Mobil 1 and if you want to spend the big bucks, Redline, HPL or Amsoil.

FWIW:
Here in central PA, myself and most all of my fellow LEXUS owners (ES, LS, LX, GX) we all run a 0-30 all year around in the 3.5 or the V8's.
For me, I go with a Euro AMSOIL flavor in 0-30. There is a 2010 ES in our group that developed oil issues through stuck or sticky rings. He ran Mobil 1 in a 0-20 for years leading up to that issue. He did 4 runs of Valvoline Restore and Protect which dramatically reduced the oil issue. Since then he has been running a 0-30 form Liqui-Molly with no oil issues still existing today.

My ES did not use oil with the 20wt, I just don't want the risk and potential issues that can come with using a 20wt.
