Lets talk about new vehicles

I wouldn't call this a first year engine. Mostly the same as my Arteon engine from the info below.

Volkswagen aficionados will note that this Atlas engine is a version of the same engine that's used in the Golf R, GTI, and Arteon, though it's tuned differently for this application

I guess the atlas is back in the running.

I did my tea run at McDonald's this morning. Ran into a new bud Allan.
His Maverick is just like mine except he has a Lariat. We shot the bull and he was surprised by my mpgs. He said he averages just 38 mpg.
I showed him mine on the spot with a care free run of about 20 miles..
His is a 2022...interesting.

My buddy in TN doesn't get my numbers either but neither of them have hybrid experience. I don't try but when I do in the spring I will be over 70 mpg...

On the way home from the above adventure I went to check on some properties and on the way home I had a late model Camaro tailgating as I was going the speed limit +.

Tailgating I don't like at all and I don't do it myself. So with little effort I put about 5 cars on him.

So it was about a 6 mile run and I pulled into a gas station and here comes the Camaro. A younger guy and his gf pull up and he said, either you're a professional driver or that thing is custom because I couldn't keep up with you on the twisties.

I said no its bone stock and I ain't what I used to be...and laughed.
I then told them the truth but nobody tell @KCJeep
I told them I have had many sports cars in my life but this is a beast on the back roads. It handles awesome and is far easier to drive than many of the cars I have had and it's just an economy cruiser..

Total truth..he said I know, I seen it with my own eyes.. Maybe @Hermann can chime in.

Sorry KC .. the Maverick out handles the Arteon with ease and no twitchyness either. It's by far more planted than the VW...

Outside of the 40 Hand calculated MPG since new, the nicest surprize is the handling. Out on a smooth blacktop with nice medium to high speed sweepers, the Maverick is just a blast on these roads. The biggest surprize is how bumps mid corner don't upset the cornering line because of the 121" wheelbase.. Changing your line with the throttle is fun also. Last fall on the trip to the Ozarks south of Russellville on Scenic 7, I had a BMW riding my tail. He had plenty of chances to pass. Finally I just went in Rally mode, hanging the tail out in every corner and just losing him. He kept up for a while but he laid back after a while. The instant torque of the hybrid makes the exit of the corner as fun as the curve itself.

Wait till you put some better tires on it. It's even better.

Exactly and even with the oem tires they don't squeal or break loose...
I'm sure many here don't believe it but it's true.
Plus the Maverick is stiff, far stiffer than my VW in sport mode...
It's easy to drive at speed with no bad manners

I really shoulda got one.
It wasn't easy to get before but it's better now. In the near future you should check one out. The guy I met today was from Texas and now lives in PA. He even heard of my dealer Chapman Ford and said they had a great reputation... my local dealers...no thanks..

Two things are landing a few Mavericks on the lot for sale. Consider my build for $27,090 now has a MSRP of about $31,700. The price increase + high interest rates has people backing out of their orders.

Yup that guy today I saw got 2.9%
Also the $1500 hybrid cost

20 isn't that bad really...
Test drivers are usually more careful than the dealerships staff.
Most of the time I agree. I bought a Z4M with 29 miles on it in 2008 and the sales guy told me to be careful during my test drive since the last guy that test drove it got pulled over going 117 and left with a reckless driving citation and decided not to buy the car 🤣.

And you bought it anyway?

I got my tea just now and had to wait. They brought it out and I pulled into the closest lot.

This record may one day be equalled but never broken...
The world was shocked today my friends and I shocked it. 😲

Drove it like he stole it .... probably seated in the piston rings pretty good. When ever I test drove a new vehicle, I didn't really baby it and ended up buying most of them. They've all ran strong and never burned any oil, so it might have helped the initial break-in. I test drove a new Mustang GT (it already has ~60 miles on it) with the sales guy and ran it up over 100 for a short time, and after the test drive back at the dealership he said "that was pretty fun". 😄
