When your vehicle has an ugly feature why accent it???
The Rivian is awesome but that front end...yikes
Doug DeMuro is about the same.
His rating scale makes no sense.
He drives me nuts

Motor Trend along with Rivian just completed a transcontinental off-road trip using these vehicles. You can read all about in the January issue. But these vehicles are very, very, impressive off road.

I remember the Long Way Up television series with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. They had Rivian pickups as follow vehicles while they used Harley Davidson electric motorcycles from the bottom of South America up to Los Angeles. That had some real grueling off road portions as well.
 
I think I would forgo the $10k battery premium to go another 90 miles.
I priced one right at $74k...

The truck does have some nice features especially covered storage.

To correctly explain the no hood view.
I sit with my shoulders about 3" from the back of the front door opening.
I have a longer upper body and that is the way I sit in everything.
So no hood and I have to move up with my chest at the steering wheel and lift off the seat
a bit to see the hood.
But I am good with that.

After owning many hybrids I am used to this feature but the VW stumbles unlike a hybrid. Many reasons why. If I did my 14 HR. Florida run I would not be bothered by it unless in heavy traffic.

On my ford ecosport I was quickly in the habit of starting the car and killing the start-stop and traction control (to preserve rear brakes).
Now I play a game to see if I can keep off the throttle and properly time intersection and parking lot driving where
the ST-STP will not engage. I did give up doing so in drive-thru's. That just too hard.
I am fairly rural little colonial town, so it is not to hard to avoid coming to a dead stop.
When I was working in Columbia, MD the traffic was insane with more time sitting than moving.

I am 50 miles from Columbia.......... near the DE. line
On the car I agree. I get in and shut it off-lol
 
The Arteon no likey Exxon 93 octane.
I got more mpg under the same situations with the dealer mystery gas....

Of course Arco is as bizarre as I and like me he probably has seen this too. I may try 89 as my local Exxon always gives me great mpg's on 87.
 
German turbo = feed it top tier premium at least. Most new VWs are now rated for 87 minimum but it's a move to keep the cost of ownership lower against Asian competitors. Lots of guys will argue it's designed for 87, and it will chug along on such, but if you actually read the manual it says 87 minimum big difference in my mind. Engine horsepower and torque ratings are captured using premium....enough said.

Joking aside I agree.
I am very easy on it but a few $$$ extra is fine. I have a local station that is not the huge spread from 87 to 93.
 
I will say on HVAC controls I prefer the old school round knobs. The KISS principle.

I got used to the VW digital setup but IMO it is the wrong path to go.
I also do not feel the need to have settings on the center screen for basic stuff. Too much drama.

Here in winter I will basically keep the settings the same for a few months but it would be great if the car just had the basic controls.
