Lets talk about new vehicles

In respect to the Maverick, besides marketing, is there something wrong with them? I was looking into them recently and liked the turbo awd version.
A couple guys on here with Mavericks that really seem to like them. There were some early recalls but otherwise I think they are fine. The problem with the Mavericks was/is the lack of production (unfortunately released right about Covid) and dealers adding 10k mark ups to them which totally defeated the whole point of the Maverick in the first place. JMO.

Yeahhh I mean that whole 10k over absolutely did defeat the purpose. IIRC they were supposed to be 22k for base hybrid and 29k for base turbo. If I had the money - which I don't - I would pay mayyybe 35k for a turbo awd but I'm broke lmao. At least my 01 F-150 doesn't have any major problems. 150k and runs great besides a small shudder below 5 mph in first gear.

The only negative for me is the turbo on the Trax.. I have had several turbos but like normally aspirated for a grocery getter .
Has this same engine been used in anything else before the Trax?

Looking at a few options for a new vehicle...Brother works at a Ford dealer (family discount with no hassle)...Family of 5 - Explorer might be a good option, but the lure of minivans (Odyssey/Sienna/Pacifica) is still there, but alas no family di$count$...

Since this topic is about new vehicles, here is my latest experience:

I was looking for a 3-row SUV for a while. Finally decided to pull the trigger for the 2024 VW Atlas Comfortline 4Motion (Canadian trim, somewhere in between US-spec SE and SE Tech).

There are lots of vehicles in the lot (white, black, gray etc.), we were looking for the red color, that's why it had to be a factory order. I've still got $2k off MSRP and 3-year free pre-paid maintenance, and didn't pay any BS products. Now we're playing the waiting game till the end of the year.

Initially we decided to go ahead with Dodge Durango R/T and I really wanted it, but it was $20k more expensive we did not want to stretch our budget for an "appliance" in the middle of a recession, just because it has a V8.

Wife and I were enjoying the end of the driving season w/ the '96, after lunch we drove by a Porsche dealer where I know someone, just for giggles although SWMBO secretly has eyes on a 911t.

Long story short:

-dealership was mobbed
-Initial starting point for most 911's is 10% over sticker, which mercifully didn't have any irritating add ons.
-They just sold a 911 GTS for ~$150k over sticker, but at least it is supposedly going to someone who will enjoy it as they should (track days), and will probably be able to sell it in a few years for what they paid if not more...
-most 911's are generally 6+ mos out, more if you really use the configurator, only two 911's in stock
-Porsche is restricting their custom paint offering due to demand straining capacity..

Crazy, just crazy.....

Not this year, or next, or.....:D

Apologies, meant GT3 RS....approx a 200k mixup:

I’d say that sums up western economies at the moment.

If you are on the upper end life’s inconvenient.

Below that, the Corolla is looking expensive.

I'm waiting for Mazda CX-70 to show up at lots, looks very good to me, may actually get one.
I've read conflicting reports that it will be sized between the CX-50 and CX-90 which makes sense and other reports have it the same size as the CX-90 but without the second row of seats; which doesn't make sense to me that they'd create a new model instead of a trim adjustment.

That there have been several delays in getting the CX-70 to American shores gives me pause that they are working out some kinks and might not have worked them all out fully.

We've started looking at Escape hybrids. Has the neutral option so it can towed by behind the RV. Prices isn't looking too bad lately. Wonder if we should worry about new model year issues with a 2020? Might just go with new though. Our 04 Escape really hasn't faired well but not to many options flat towing, we don't want a Jeep or a manual.

I just finished a California to SLC round trip. Single day drive on the way back (10 ish hours).

My 2021.5 atlas SE 2.0T was a dream. Comfy, quiet, smooth. Plenty of space for kids stuff. Averaged 26 mpg on the trip. Car ate up the highway at 85 MPH (Utah) with zero issues.

Love it.

26 MPG highway for a 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo seems very low. That engine had to be working very hard. My 5.7 HEMI V-8 will deliver 21 MPG highway in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. And that's a 5,100 pound vehicle.

It’s quite a large SUV for a 4 cylinder.

I agree too, mine doesn't feel too bad. It offers a lot of torque around 2000 rpm so you don't have to rev it out like the V6.

2024 MY only comes with 4-cylinder, but with 270 horsepower. I think it is slightly detuned version of the Golf R.

That means there is a lot of tuning potential lol
