Lets talk about new vehicles

Just made the first real move to get the wife a new Subaru. Went to a dealer in Manchester that showed 40(!) Crosstreks in stock. Got there and they had NONE that weren't on hold or sold. So we "test sat" in a couple new Premium trim models to make sure the seats, ergos, visibility and climate control knobs were to the wife's liking.
In the meantime they were appraising her trade which is the 2021 in my signature. it has 24K miles on the odo.

I did mention that I can just call carvana - the sales lady said, "We can't compete with them!".

I asked what they were asking for the new Crosstreck, She said MSRP plus $495 fee plus $27 title application fee.
Which is better than most in the area. She did say if you were NOT a previous customer and out of state there would be $2500. admu.

In about five mins they came back with an offer - and I was waiting for a low-ball - but she said $25K.
I told they wife on the way there, we could hope for $23K so I was happy with their offer. We paid 26K a year ago and the car has a lot of scratches and small dents from my wife putting her giant kayak on the roof. I could get more elsewhere, but this is adequate. She owes $16,5K so we can get into the new car for about $18K financed.

Waiting for the next allocation list to drop in a week, and hopefully there is a color and trim she wants as we fight with 20 other customers. I haven't tried a bribe yet - this may be a payola to play game.

Its been discussed here and elsewhere that dealers show on order vehicles as "in stock" on their website even though they don't even know when they will arrive.

I am curious-did you really think they had them?

Many or the 40 listings read as "on the lot" but many stock numbers showed "SoldXX" rather than a stock number. I assume the XX is the salespersons initials; while others showed 'In transit".
My expectation was but to get on a reserve list and possibly test drive a car. The salesperson after some convincing "allowed" us to "test sit" a couple of sold vehicles of differing trim levels. I also hoped that a couple of the manual trans cars would be on the lot. But no. We did obtain a "cash value" price on her car and we are on a list. NO rush. Wife just doesn't like the color of her car and its doesn't reflect her "values" HA HA. Her current '21 Outback averages better fuel mileage than her '17 crosstrek. And she can put her large offroad bike in the back assembled with the front wheel on. But it's a got really soggy and unresponsive throttle. Steers and rides Excellent - at any price.

At least you were able to sit in them. Most dealers here if a car is pre sold you can't even do that.

Yes, I actually said to the sales lady, "... If smelly mechanics and detailers are going to do a PDI and clean and prep, then I would think we can sit in them for a couple minutes!"
The vehicles had not been PDI'd - they looked right off the transport.

I would not want a prospective customer in a car I had purchased after it was cleaned - of even before actually!

I have the itch again for an economy run-around.
Most likely a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport- It suits me well and yes as an owner of 4 of them prior
I find them totally reliable and easy to work on. The only thing that really stinks is the Nexen tires.
They are about worthless and have very limited durability. I have found some crazy deals, but they are FWD.
I guess I could make that work but I had great resale of the AWD.
Subaru is on my list but the pricing is about $7K higher but I have a dealer that does discount them.

@skyactiv once posted of the luxo-ride- value of the Legacy... (interesting)
@AutoMechanic has become a convert since he walked out of his house for once.
@KCJeep is a Jetta man.......

Probably no new rides for me till 2024. Which perfectly explains why I'm looking now. 😛

I consider it a fun hobby. My mother birdwatches I car watch. 😁
Yeah, it does spice up a mundane life for sure.

Are you looking at 2022 models? AWD is now standard on 2023 models.

I reluctantly sold this one last year 21 LE awd..I got this one at an insane price and made great money on it..
