I was walking barefoot without my glasses from our laundry room to the garage. This cute little guy was on the door sill. I thought it was piece of rope and was going to kick it off the sill, but it moved first... It's head wasn't originally that wide. That's after I hit it with the end of a broom handle.

What is that, a gopher snake?

I'm pretty sure it is.

When a baby gopher snake is in the doorway to your house and you don't have your glasses on they look a lot like a baby Crotalus oreganus oreganus - Northern Pacific Rattlesnake which is common around here. My next door neighbor found a 3.5 footer in his garage.

Had I bent way over for a close look or gone and got my glasses, I probably would have been able to tell it wasn't a rattler, but that wasn't going to happen. There were too many places for it to slither off to in the garage and be a problem later.

Mark, its an Eastern Milksnake found only in the Mtns in our state (NC).. yes basically you right. just a different version of the king snake
