Leaks Oil with Time-Sert

The oil pan's drain hole - Victory motorcycle - had stripped threads. Victory (and maybe Indian too) motorcycles are known for this problem. A Time-Sert M12 X 1.50 Drain Plug Repair Kit was installed using Red Loctite on the insert's outer threads. Put oil into the motor and it leaked. I'll try Loctitte PST sealant to temporarily stop/slow the leak but it will need a permanent fix.

Anyone removed a Time-Sert that's been thread locked with Red Loctite? If I can get it out, then what?

If worse turns to worst, it's possible to epoxy the leaking plug into the pan and make a new drain hole. But I want to avoid that. I think the best fix would be to remove the current Sert and install a new one (without leaks, of course), if possible. Thoughts?

I have not used Time-Serts before, but have researched them, and used Helicoil many times. If its leaking around the timesert, then your copper washer is probably bad, or the outside surface of the drain plug opening is bad. Red Loctite requires heat to remove, so I would be concerned about damaging the case.

Look into Permatex The Right Stuff to seal off the plug in the meantime.

Re-torqued the drain plug with a new torque wrench and found it wasn't tightened far enough. Between a poorly calibrated wrench and being gun shy about stripping the plug/oil pan, no wonder it was leaking.

For anyone who has a problem with a leaking Time-Sert, the manufacturer said in an email that you should not have to remove the insert. The only problem could be you may have tapped the hole in a slight angle. They offer a recondition seat tool to use with the install driver to ensure the surface is square. The Seat Reconditioner M12 or 1/2" drain plug p/n 32176 is $27.75. The install driver tool is used on the Seat Reconditioner.
