Avoid the Chevy Cruze and Cobalt.

A used Cruz is probably still too new to be reasonably priced used. In so far as the Corolla, I would avoid late model used ones for now since they are about to redo it and when that happens the pricing on the previous model might drop enough to make it a better late model used car to buy.

I'd not recommend a 2011 Cruze with an automatic transmission as a used car. The fuel mileage is horrendous, and the transmission in the 2011's isn't known for shifting that well. A 2012 is a much better sorted car.

I rented all years of Cruze. The automatic is better a bit in newer ones but really makes the car feel subpar. It really is decent otherwise when "not shifting".

Focus, Corolla, Civic are much better shifting automatics at least in rentals I have gotten.

The last-gen Focus shifted okay. Civics can be problematic if no maintenance is done. Corollas seem to shift pretty well, too.

I hated the Cruze's automatic on a test drive, so I got a manual transmission Cruze. Much better!

I rode in a rental cruze that couldn't make up its mind to shift; IDK if it tries adaptive programming and fails with all the different drivers or what. It also had a CEL on at 15k.
