Lately, I have been reading tons of material on Detroit and I am in awe. What happened? From what I read and see, Detroit is a wasteland. Not trying to bash the city or it's people, but block after block of burnt out houses, major buildings abandoned and simply left to rot. How did this happen to begin with and is it possible to reverse the situation? What would it take for the people of a given neighborhood to stand up and say "enough"? What are the factors that keep Detroit on a downward spiral?

A lot of the major cities are in the exact same boat! This represents decades of criminal mismanagement by their local governments.

1) Mismanagement of the local governments
2) Manufacturing moving to cheaper places (non-union, out of the country)
3) #1 comes into play again and won't let any new businesses come in
4) People moving away.
