Ever have arthroscopic knee surgery?

I've been putting off a consult with the orthopedist but am facing the prospect of surgery due to a torn meniscus and a cyst that is caused from fluid from the knee capsule leaking out per an MRI in December. It mainly just causes soreness so I don't think the it's the meniscus is causing me pain but the cyst rubbing on the MCL.

Hate to tell you, but Vicodin is a combination of Hydrocodone and Tylenol so you can't say you've never used opiates. 😁 You can say that you're never had the "good stuff" as hydrocodone is weak sauce compared to other opiates. I really don't like how any of it affects me, though.
What I meant to say is that I don’t have any history of opiate abuse so there’s no reason not to give me good ones.

I shudder to think how I would have endured my 1972 knee surgery if done in the same manner today. Especially with doctors fearing to prescribe effective pain medication because of patient abuse.
I got a pain shot every 6 hours after surgery; strong stuff, the pain was gone. I asked the good Doc when I could go home. "When you get off the pain injections." I said, "Stop them right now." I went home with pills; I took one and it made me sick and emotional; I started crying for no reason. So I quit them and just laid in the bed, just glad to be home. I read books, starting with "The Caine Mutiny".

Agreed. I’ve never used opiates but I can tell you that the Vicodin they gave me isn’t strong enough. I can’t sleep because every time I move the pain wakes me up.
You have my sympathy.
After my second hip replacement, less that a month after my wife died, I came home to an empty house.
Those first two weeks, I would not wish on an enemy.

Want to hear a good one re; pain?
The nurse was discharging me after Pacemaker implantation.
For the pain, just take Tylenol.

Day 2, post, I said F that, switched to my backup plan. 5/100 hydrocodone.
See my earlier post about docs not properly for Pain.

Just flashed back to me near fatal bicycle crash, 2007.
Shortly after arriving at Stanford Medical Center ER, Morphine.
Pain? No pain here!

Know I'm a bit late to this thread, hope the knee is fully back to normal by now! For a simple trim, the worst of the pain usually drops off after 3 or 4 days. When I had my lateral tear, my recovery was pretty smooth. I worked with an orthopedic doctor Orland Park from Skyline Ortho . The rehab plan from the guys at Skyline Ortho made a huge difference in getting my mobility back.

I used to have a lot of problems with my knees. I blamed it on years of track and cross country participation. I have found, at age 70, that weight management and exercise have done me more good than doctors. I have a simple, four exercise weight routine that I do at the gym two or three days a week. These, along with hiking keep my legs strong and weight down. Even losing fifteen to twenty pounds make a positive difference. As always, your mileage may vary.
