Las Vegas tourism seems to be in deep trouble

Canadians are not visiting
Can confirm this. Me and a buddy went in May(had a great time) but lots of people(other Canadians) gave me remarks that they wouldn’t travel to the US for political reasons that I think are silly and won’t get into here.

I love America and what it stands for, I hate seeing this Canada / USA divide.

When the fans in Montreal booed the US anthem during the NHL playoffs I was disgusted and really upset.

As far as Vegas goes, yes it has just gotten really expensive. That used to be the lure of Vegas was how cheap it was, far from it now. $20-30 drinks everywhere on the strip and fees on top of fees for everything you do.

Our hotel(Bellagio) charged a “reservation fee” of I think $175 just for the privilege of reserving a room there. Crazy.

45-50 years ago it was like a different world. It had a mystique all its own. In the big casinos drinks were free as long as you were gambling, even playing the slots, waitresses walked the floor asking if they could get you anything and anything from cocktails to sandwiches were free. They wanted you to stay at the tables or machines. The buffet was never more than $5 and breakfast was usually $1. Rooms were cheap, parking was free and everyone working in the casino was customer oriented. Even though you knew they wanted your money they acted like they really wanted you to be happy. If you hit a losing streak they would comp your room and give you free tickets to a show. I have not been back since the early 90's and saw a major change happening then. Its just another tourist trap now like 1000 others around the country.

Vegas used to be ultra cheap - including the flights. Years ago I went many times for trade shows for work. I haven’t been in at least 15 years, which is probably when it became not cheap.

Vegas used to draw a lot of convention crowds. But conventions have been dropping off for years, and a lot of cities compete for what is left.

Then they re-invented themselves as more entertainment but there is way more competition for that these days. Lots more Places to gamble also for those so inclined.

Used to be about cheap drinking too but drinking has been in decline for about the same time.

Who wants to stay in a fancy hotel in the middle of nowhere? There is no beach or city or whatever. It’s all completely contrived.

Back in the day it was one of the few places you could legally gamble. Now there are casinos all over the country. Add to that all the online gambling sites no wonder it isn't as popular.
Every Casino had a sports gambling lounge. That’s a joke now because you can do the same thing in your living room with smart phone app. I’m thinking on-line gambling has knee capped Vegas.

Maybe tourism is down because all the fats that used to go got on OZEMPIC which reduces the compulsion to gamble?

That may be a small part of it but it’s probably more related to the economy and ability to gamble almost anywhere now.

As someone who has multiple rental units there, I can tell you that the article does not touch at all on the severity of the issue.
Vegas is a barometer of the economy. Foreign tourists are dramatically down.
I mentioned this a few months ago here. The only thing I will say is: buckle up.
Where are your units? Upscale? I might be looking to move to Vegas and might want to rent to ensure we like it before we buy a house.
