Largest filter I could run on 02’ Dakota

I think I heard I could run a MC FL-1A on late dad’s Dakota truck. It specs a FRAM 16 filter.

if you have room, the FL1-A sized filters will go in. Fram FS8a for cross reference.

Adam why are you interested in a bigger filter. Myself I'd be way more concerned about the highest efficiency filter I could get micron wise? Bigger may be better if the filter was say 99 + percent at say 10 microns because of dirt catching and possible flow issues.

Fram PH8a should work fine unless there is not enough room. Should the engine twist on it's mounts will a bigger filter hit anything? Will it be struck by road debris?
I use the bigger Fram Ultra XG8a on my van with a 3.3. I leave it on for 3 or 4 oil changes.

Micron wise by todays standards that's probably as good as it gets.

Not all FL-1a cross references are the same length. You might find one that's half an inch shorter that fits better, although you run the risk of it being an "economy" design.

PH16 is a pretty big filter, not sure there's a need to run a PH8A which is just....massive.

I used to be a bigger-is-better nut case. @Astro14 suggested the std Toyota oil filter for our beloved 01 Tundra 4.7.
I've never looked back.

It's all good.
