Better or higher oil psi with Toyota oil filter

Good evening folks. Removed a XG 16 ULTRA oil filter from my 02’ Dakota earlier today. Noted oil psi was kinda on lower side at idle or at stops while in drive. With the Toyota 90915-YZZD1 oil filter (crosses to 3614/51348 oil psi is higher or better I think. Am I just crazy or…..?

Thank You

Do you know if the oil temperature was exactly the same? Did you change the oil too? If you changed oil with the filter, then it's hard to compare directly - changing more than one factor. What kind oil oil pressure gauge is it, and what's the resolution and accuracy? If your oil pump is in good shape, it's going to put out the same volume at idle because it's not even close to going into pressure relief.

Aren't Toyota filters known to sacrifice efficiency for better flow rates?
The difference in dP vs flow is minuscule between filters at idle RPM. And the PD pump isn't anywhere near pressure relief at idle. If the oil temperature isn't exactly the same, or he changed the oil too then that can make a noticeable difference in oil pressure.

Most likely a combination of factors. How many miles on the XG16 Ultra? Could've been more likely loaded in the pleats, ergo more dP across the media.

I happened to be talking about this on another thread. You can run a longer filter if there's clearance for it. The M1-209, for example. That way the restriction due to higher filtering efficiency is offset by more surface area.

Heights:
M1-209 - 4.8125"
90915-YZZD1 - 3.65"
XG 16 - 3.688"

I ran 5 different brand filters on my Z06 that an accurate oil pressure and oil temperature digital gauges. Always ran Mobil 1 5W-30. When the oil temperature and the engine RPM was at the points, the oil pressure was always the same regardless of what oil filter was on the engine.

Don’t know if oil temp was same. Did not change oil. Oil psi gauge is factory installed by Dodge. .

I have yet to see any actual proof that Toyota filters sacrifice efficiency in any recent testing.

Anyways my Chevy 4.3 with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Mileage idles cold at 44 PSI both when I tried the Fram Endurance (one of the most efficient filters out there) and with the OEM AC Delco PF47E 98% 30 Microns, no difference between the two.

And both hot at idle 40psi.

Couldn't say for my Toyota because it doesn't have a oil pressure gauge.

If you believe BR's testing on YT, the OEM Toyota didn't come in very well compared to other OEM filters.

I've never seen any oil pressure difference between filters. Maybe those that actually do might have a really worn out oil pump. A few PSI difference in dP across different oil filters isn't going to matter to a healthy PD pump.

Exactly what i was going to say. Toyota oil filters aren't really that great, filtration wise.. so they might be less restrictive.. that being said, can the filter be influential enough to be a factor..?

I got a couple of BECK/ARNLEY 0418190 filters with my last order from RA, they look same as Toyota filters, will use them on my son in law's Taco. Toyota filters may not be 'great' but should be good enough to allow engines last.

I assure you we see engines with hundreds of thousands of miles daily at the dealership where i work. Some of us, myself included, just want the best! Now, what is the best, that can be left open to interpretation.. :)
