Same filter on my Kohler ZT740 powered Gravely ZTR. I pulled the factory filter off at 5 hours and dissected it. It looked just as good as the one @53' Stude cut open. A typical Champion Labs filter. They are decent filters but, not worth the extra money. I went back with a NAPA Gold 1348.
Thanks for the C&P @53' Stude .

All the small engine companies seem to do the same thing, I know Kawasaki and John Deere sell rebadged e-cores for like $10-15/ea
Oh for sure on that. My parents had a 1991 or 1992 model year John Deere GT262 riding mower with a 17hp Kawi single. I remember a genuine JD filter being around $8 for it back then. I had cross-refed it to a Fram of all things and that's what we used. LOL.

paid $13 for the last black kohler for girlfriends cub cadet lawn tractor, not a OE guy but "computer" didnt show an alternative!

You'll probably have to manually cross reference something with the same thread and bypass setting, a lot of lawn tractors take a what is essentially a shorter 3614\fl910\51348\10241 , and the closest off the shelf part is the 3614\fl910\51348\10241.

Kohler, like Briggs and Kawasaki use the Ford thread/gasket system.
Fram PH8170 Is the current spec filter. Some Ford models use it
on the 1.5L four cylinder engine. Same size as the stock John Deere filter.

My 2¢

The PH8170 is the short version of the Kohler filter. It’s not a direct crossover to the filter that was cut open by @53' Stude .

Kohler "pro", Champ made ecore with a combo valve. Amazon wants almost $15 for this. Otoh, FL910S for $4 at Walmart gets one a silicone adbv and separate coil spring bypass. Or any 3614 equivalent. But as noted, having the Kohler name on the can provides a degree of comfort for many. Afaik excepting can label and color, current ST3614 still same filter as topic for ~$3.

Thanks for c&p.

I have not seen a center tube like that before. Usually the cage design is plastic. Or a metal tube with smaller round holes.

Thanks for that. I X-referenced my pals Kohler 25 hp (Command?) filter ~15 years ago. No probs.

Spindles are what goes on that Cub Cadet.
