Not surprising at all to me that Costco would start carrying Chevron labeled diesel oil. Costco had sold a lot of Chevron oil products over the years. Chevron Supreme was what they stocked for automotive oil until it was replaced by the Kirkland product.
My local Costco has had two 15w-40 oils for a while. A Kirkland brand one and a more expensive Delo 400 one. It makes sense that they would combine it into one product.

If you knew how Chevron operated a few years ago. You would be absolutely floored at how big of a deal this is.

I don’t go to Costco a ton besides to buy gas. I do tend to walk the oil aisle, and hadn’t seeen their 15w-40 in a few years!! Maybe it will come back?
Nice Information mxr662. Can't beat this deal. Like I stated earlier, I can run the 15w40 at zero and above in my 2011 3500, but I choose to run Rotella T6 5w40 year round. The Kirkland/Costco 15w40 hasn't arrived at my Costco yet. I wished my Costco also had a diesel pump or two. Their gasoline is top notch, it's Top Tier.
I'll bite. You're hinting at context that is important, but you decline to provide such. Care to indulge us?
Previously, Chevron lubricants were siloed off from base oils and additives. Which made them very uncompetitive for large bids like this. Or other large fill bids.
Now, they’ve re-organized. Base oils, additives and finished lubricants are all under the same leadership team. Which makes them unbelievably competitive.
AKA, Mobil and Shell need to build/buy in-house additive capacity?
Chevron was able to underbid Warren because Warren couldn't get their supplier (Infineum/Lubrizol) price down? Soon we see "Supertech by Chevron" and "Fram Oil by Chevron."
Controlling everything in house certainly helps. I don’t believe we will see Shell and Mobil move additives in house. I mean, technically Shell doesn’t even make base oils in the U.S. anymore. Or even have a refinery in the U.S.
And it’s hard to say what Chevron will do next. But possibly.
It was Delo Oil in my 2002 F350 7.3 then. I would have no hesitation in using the Kirkland/Costco 15w40 if I still had my 2002 F350 7.3 can't beat the price.
Most of the time when I had my 2002 F350 7.3, I was using the Motor Craft 15w40 because of the quality, convince (5 Quart Jugs- 3 Jugs Required) as well as the Motor Craft FL-1995 Oil Filter. If I remember correctly, the total cost at WM was about $55-$60 for these items.

yeah after doing the 7.3L oil/ filer change for years, you appreciate how frickin easy it is vs ram cummins filter change.. On the 78.3L I would hammer a big nail in the bottom of filter to drain it out. while that was working i had the 16 qt oil drain container taking on oil with the fumoto valve so it was not a RUSH out just a nice steady flow. drain pan empty then unscrew teh monster filter and drop in drain container top. shut off valve, and I would just put like 1/2 the filter with oil and after wiping the mount and oiling the gasket spin it up nice n snug. open the rest of the oil jugs and start pouring..
on teh ram the drain is not bad unless you have not put a fumoto plug in .. it come out in a FRICKEN rush. over flowing teh pan I had to stick a finger in the drain hole to stop it so the pan could get all the oil in. OMG.. then you gotta get into the filter seal the top tip it over and wrange out.. MOGGG.. what a fricken pain. miss the easy filter..

I remember also punching the hole in the bottom of the 7.3 oil filter letting the oil drain from the oil filter then easily spinning the oil filter off. With my 2011 3500, I use several extensions with the oil filter fluted device and remove the oil filter through the opening near the right front wheel section. I have never had any oil spills so far. Although my 2011 3500 oil filter change isn't hard, the oil filter change on my 2002 F350 7.3 was much easier.
I bought 2 cases in Charleston, SC today for $29.99 a case. I used to run the Warren Distribution Costco oil in my 7.3. I am good with either oil at $10 a gallon.
