my 04 TSX has 45,000km now (ABOUT 30k miles). the menu spec the first ATF drain and re-fill at 160,000km (100k miles) - but the odd thing is the transmission warrenty only cover 100,000km... shall i keep the original ATF for that long? or replace it now? also are there any OTC alternative better to Z1? i am in Canada and my selection is limited to Z1, Maxlife ATF, Castrol Import ATF and maybe Amsoil.
thanks in advance!!

thanks! i was hoping to see some positive about maxlife or castrol.. does anyone know if they offer adventages compare to honda Z1.. Amsoil cost about $14 CDN after tax and so i hope a cheaper possibility

is it possible that Honda use different ATF for the one assemble in japan? that 160,000km interval is a very powerful (or confusing) to me...

For something that you only replace every few years, i'd spend a little extra money on the amsoil. Every car i've put amsoil fluid into shifted better, one car I removed mobil fluid and put amsoil into it, the mobil had 9,000 miles on it, the transmission felt brand new after amsoil.

A complete flush every 30k miles is a smart move.
There are a bunch of multivehicle or universal ATF
s that can be used.
Or, just visit the dealer.

I wouldnt mess with a transmission flush, just replacing what comes out every 30k should be enough.

thanks for everyone's help!!

will universal ATF provide better protection or performance than z1, and do i need to drain and refill at same interval as Z1? dealer is last option, i will install z1 myself

once again, thanks!!

Amsoil is indeed more expensive but I feel it's worth it. Honda isn't exactly known for making amazing AT's and I feel the extra protection is worth it. It meets and/or exceeds the Honda Z1 spec. It should be able to provide better protection/performance considering it's synthetic and able to withstand a bit more heat. I would still drain/refill at the recommended interval. Sorry I can't help you on any of the other brands, I've only used Z1 or Amsoil. Best of luck!

will i need lubguard additive to go with amsoil ATF?

In no way would you need Lubegard with Amsoil ATF. In general Amsoil says not to use additives. I doubt the Lubegard would harm anything, though.

You should order your Amsoil products from a site sponsor.

thanks! i will look for amsoil dealer in my area. maybe pick up some ATF from buffalo/niagara falls when i go shopping there!

Canadian Tire has at least one of the Amsoil ATFs on the shelf.

I've had good luck ordering online. It's shipped from within Canada so shipping/brokerage/taxes is reasonable. I know some people in the States complain about Amsoil being expensive, but ordering online in Canada compared to Canadian oil prices it's actually right on or less than comparables (GC, M1, etc...)

Pablo: Can Canadians order online with a US-based dealer listed as their dealer and not screw anything up?

Craig.

i am wondering how much will shipping and custom duty cost when ship to Canada...

No such thing as customs for Amsoil customers in Canada. Amsoil is warehoused in Canada. Just order it like anyone in the USA does and pay your local shipping. In some ways you guys get pretty good prices up there.
