Haven't seen too much said about K & N oil filters. What are the thoughts on those?

I have used them and they work, but I don't think they are worth the high cost when you can get a Pur-One for less, or a Bosch Distance plus for the same price. Someone did a test on several different filters on this board and the K&N filtered good, but not as good as the Pure-one.

The "nut" on the top of the filter and higher burst strength are the main differences between it and Mobil 1 filters, both made by champion labs ( or use to be, I THINK royal purple filters are too).
The nut is liked by owners with vehicles that have bad filter locations. Otherwise they are mostly good for performance/ offroad vehicles and trucks/ suv's that haul and tow alot (burst resistance).
My brother uses them on his Wrangler because other filters would get holes from rocks and other stuff kicked while on the trail. He gets a bit adventurous, tho if he would get it lifted higher it might save him money on filters

Good filter..the nut is the diiference.
I know I have one on my car and like them so far and not because of the nut because I believe they filter well and will see how dirty it becomes over the next 3000 miles with Castrol Edge Titanium and 6oz of Seafoam in the crankcase too. I also like the filter cause they are white and you can see whether the filter is leaking or not too.
I use the 171-C on my Harleys.They seem like a good, high quality filter, and the nut is a huge plus. If I could find a cross reference to a PureOne filter, I would go with that. Anyone know what a KN 171-C would be, in a PureOne???

Purolator has a motorcycle line of oil filters ... don't know how good they are.

Used them for many years but since all the price increases just not worth the price, the flow is great but I refuse to purchase any filter over $10 at this point. Napa Golds do fine by me
