K&N Oil Filter(white can)

Those who have used the K&N White Oil Filter, please chime in!

I want to use one on my '80 FORMULA Firebird V8 as I can get this K&N filter with an Oil/Filter special for around $15.00. This special is for the Valvoline Next Gen Full Synthetic & K&N filter with coupon and gift card.

It's really the K&N oil filter that I want to try not the Next Gen Syn Oil! I'll be using the Next Gen oil in another car but, want to try the K&N on this V8 engine in my BIRD with MaxLife.

My V8 Engine experiences some very, very minor flow issues(in the higher RPM range) and I've been using Purolator Classic(a.k.a. Premium Plus) for many years...which flow better than the PureONE's...I believe!

Opinions Please!



EDIT: I am but, not overly concerned about filtration as well! Tell me about this too?

I've used them a couple of times on my wife's 2005 Explorer with the 4.6 V-8. In all honesty it's not a high performance engine. It's performed the same as the Motorcraft FL820S, PureONE PL24651 and Mobil 1 M1-210. The down side of the K&N is I don't have a 1" socket and don't want to buy one just for this. And it's totally smooth shell makes getting a grip in a buried tight location tough. I have 2 USA made ones I'm returning. They are the HP-2010, for the 4.6. The cans are very heavy, has a pre-lubed base seal, silicone ADBV, and "high-flow media" that's 99% efficient, according to what I'm reading on the box. One of our posters who works for Fram/Champion says that Champion is no longer making them now. They are now being produced by a South Korean company, so who knows what changed from the US made ones.

Thanks for your info. This engines' oil filter is easy to access and, I have several choices of wrenches(band type) to choose from. So, I'm not concerned with the nut at the end.

I am also using an oversized filter on this engine just to get that "little extra" oil in the engine.

Char baby, I enjoy reading your detailing posts. Now on to the K&N oil filter, I have used them many times for my Nissan alt that i sold and also for the Hyundai Sonata that I have right now. The K&N is one of only two (other is M1) aftermarket filters I can use on it without excess start-up noise. I have found their construction rugged and I would recommend the K&N oil filter to anyone who wants to extend their OCI as i have seen these filters appear fine after 15k. A great filter, you cant go wrong.

PS: I dont want to sound like a K&N fanboy. There are many other filters I would not hesitate to use. Bosch D+, M1, and K&N are very equal in quality for the extra bucks. I would only purchase any of these if they were on sale though.

K&N( white can )is all I ran before I swapped over to RP filters. Ran them on everything from drag cars to muscle cars to daily drivers. They are excellent. Use with complete confidence.

As noted above, K&N recently switched suppliers. They're no longer made by Champ Labs (now absorbed into Fram Filtration).

Pretty much all the comments you'll read will probably be about the now-discontinued K&N filters that were made in the USA. The new ones appear to be imported. The examples I've heard of were made in Korea.

But, where ever you buy that combo deal may have the older USA-made ones. And the new ones could be just as good. But at this point I haven't seen any real data, and I don't care enough to search for it.

I'm still going to give it a shot as I mentioned, I'll be getting the K&N filter with an oil/filter Special and some extra moneys' taken off as well.

It looks like I will not be using K&N on my vehicles. I've used them in the past but see no reason to continue using them.

Well, certainly for their regular price, I would never touch them. Though I do have several of their air filters(purchaced really cheap ~$10) a long time ago, for my 3 cars and do run the K&N AF's during ceratin months of the year while still keeping the OE/OE type.

The only reason that I am even considering the K&N Oil Filter is due to the oil/filter speicial and I have some extra money to use at AAP. I already bought one Oil/Filter Special w/Valvoline NextGen Syn/K&N @ $15 but, I may return the filter itself and get my Fireird's application instead.
