K&N Filter - switching

I've been using the K&N filter for my S2000 with Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer. I am thinking about switching to another brand of oil filter for my next round when I'll have 12000 miles on the odo.

I can't get the Mobil 1 oil filter here in Calgary Canada. I don't think I can find the Wix either. What would you guys recommend?

I don't drive hard but like to visit 9000rpm once in a while. The car is a daily driver and 95% city driven. The flow of the K&N is very good from what I've read but how is it in filtering and is it good for a daily driver filter?

Silvestreak, you can't go wrong with the K&N. I think that in your high-revving engine, that the flow of the K&N is much more important than the smaller filtering of the Bosch or Pureone. Plus you get a filter that is built like a tank. It also has the drilled safety wire holes for when you start racing your S2000

Joe, you mention the K&N is built like a tank. I understand that the Mobil 1 is built the same way. My question is, how does this make a difference? Will a normal oil filter really ever explode or anything? How does the stronger build make a difference, other than psychologically? And what about the decreased filtering ability of a higher flow filter?

If you wish to switch to a Wix filter you will find them at your local Carquest or Napa autoparts dealer, under their own label ...

K&N claims high flow, is this the case?

The Wix is about half the price of the K&N in many applications, and has very good flow (if we believe their technical reps who claim it only goes into bypass mode with cold oil) Plus another thing I like about the Wix is that it uses a much more durable silicone antidrainback valve.

True, which is why the Wix is better for me, it's cheaper, plus many Canadian Tire stores up here have stopped carrying the K&Ns, and they don't seem to have sales on them anymore, so they are $16.99 each!

I can get you any filter you like from AutoZone...I am allready sending Mobil filters to a guy in Calgary once a year...I reside 20 minutes from the Detroit border in Windsor and do regular "oil filter" runs to the states.If you want I can pick you up what you need and mail them via Canada Post...just opening your options...

Thanks for the offer. I think I might stick with the K&N since I can find it pretty easily. I might look up the Wix. I am definately after better flow since the S2000 has had a few cases of #4 cyclinder scoring due to lack of lubrication. IT mostly happens when the car is in the early stages but you can never be too sure.
